SHEMOTH (EXODUS) 6:2 – 9:35 – WA’ERA – AND I APPEARED!

This Torah portion has a similar name to a previous portion from Berěshith/Genesis 18-22, however that portion is called ‘And He appeared’, while this one is called “And I appeared” which is the phrase – וָאֵרָא – ‘va’arah’ and comes from the root word רָאָה ra’ah – Strong’s H7200 – meaning, to see, look, observe, pay close attention, consider, appear, provide.  This verb is written in the ‘niphal passive’ tense and therefore is understood as rendering, to appear, present oneself, to be seen, to be visible.  It is clear that while יהוה literally ‘made himself visible’ to Aḇraham, He was making Himself known to the entire nation, and He would do this by making His Truth known through Mosheh (Torah) as a shadow picture of Him physically making Himself visible before His people as revealed through the life, death and resurrection of Messiah.

Verse 2I AM יהוה – After some intense frustration from being obedient, despite some attempts at excusing his role and seeing things getting seemingly worse since he started doing what he was told to, Mosheh receives a very profound truth, one that we are all are to receive and learn; and that is the words:

“I AM יהוה

These words ought to be sufficient to bring confidence, peace and the courage to face whatever may come to any true believer knowing and trusting in the Great I AM. The 10 Words or 10 Commandments begin with “I AM יהוה”. Our walk of obedience to His commands can only begin with our true recognition of who He is and that it is יהוה who is the One who has redeemed us and has brought us out of Mitsrayim and slavery and bondage to sin, setting us free from lawlessness. To follow the Torah without recognising the One who has delivered you from enslavement is simply legalism with an attempt at following the letter only, while disregarding the Author of the letter!

Verse 3יהוה was making it clear that as He made Himself known to Aḇraham, Yitsḥaq and Ya’aqoḇ – so He was now making Himself known to the nation of Yisra’ĕl!

They all knew the Name of יהוה:

Berěshith 12:8 “And from there he moved to the mountain east of Bĕyth Ěl, and he pitched his tent, with Bĕyth Ěl on the west and Ai on the east. And he built there an altar to יהוה, and called on the Name of יהוה.

Berěshith 13:4 “to the place of the altar which he had made there at first. And there Aḇram called on the Name of יהוה.

Berěshith 17:1 “And it came to be when Aḇram was ninety-nine years old, that יהוה appeared to Aḇram and said to him, “I am Ěl Shaddai – walk before Me and be perfect.

Berěshith 26:25 “And he built an altar there, and called on the Name of יהוה, and he pitched his tent there, and the servants of Yitsḥaq dug a well there.

Berěshith 28:13 “And see, יהוה stood above it and said, “I am יהוה Elohim of Aḇraham your father and the Elohim of Yitsḥaq. The land on which you are lying, I give it to you and your seed.

Ěl Shaddai = Ěl Almighty, which means, ‘The Mighty One who is Almighty!’ He is The all sufficient One, emphasising His total sufficiency as our nourisher and protector and in whom there is complete sufficiency! The Hebrew word שַׁדַּי Shaddai – Strong’s H7706 means, the Almightyand is used as a compound title used for Elohim; and by declaring this to Yisra’ĕl, יהוה was making it very clear that He is all powerful and there was no one else who Yisra’ĕl would need!

The Hebrew root word that שַׁדַּי Shaddai comes from is שָׁדַד shaḏaḏ – Strong’s H7703 which means, to deal violently with, despoil, devastate, completely destroy; and so here we can clearly see the context of the clear message being given to Yisra’ĕl. The ALL-POWERFUL ONE was calling Yisra’ĕl to perfection; and we know that failure to heed His commands will result in being gathered with the lawless who shall receive His wrath of destruction; whereas those who respond to the call of the Almighty One and walk in His ways can have the full assurance of the promises contained in the Covenants of Promise, which we are brought near to by the Blood of Messiah!

יהוה appeared to Aḇraham, Yitsḥaq and Ya’aqoḇ as Ěl Shaddai – as the One who has the complete power to deal violently with and destroy, yet He was ‘known’ to them as יהוה (YAHWEH) – that is ‘The I AM who causes us to be’!

The above Name is known also as the Tetragrammaton (four letters); and the four Hebrew letters are transliterated as YHWH, from the True Scriptural Name of The Almighty Ěl - Ěl Shaddai!

Transliterated as follows:

י (yod) – Y; ה (hay) – H; ו (vav) – W or V; ה (hay) – H – YHWH – יהוה

The Name has been pronounced in various ways, most commonly and correctly as YAHWEH, whereas some have erroneously used the pronunciations of Yahvay, Yahuah, or Yahovah.  The pronunciation ‘Jehovah’ was unknown until 1520 when it was introduced by Galantinus and was greatly contested, as there was no letter ‘j’ in existence up until that point. I personally say and prefer YAHWEH based on this being the most accurate pronunciation when using the Hebrew rules of grammar and understanding that when we say ‘YAHWEH’ we are declaring that ‘the I AM is the One who causes me to be’ as the Name YAHWEH is written in the 3rd person causative form of the verb הָיָה hayah, whereas when YAHWEH speaks and says ‘EHYEH’ it is written in the 1st person absolute form of הָיָה hayah as He is speaking and declares that He is the One who causes to be.

This article will help the reader understand the correct transliteration and pronunciation of the Name of the Most High!

יהוה (YAHWEH) is His Name forever, by which He is to be remembered from generation to generation! That is very simple and easy enough for a child to understand, yet sadly why has it been ‘forgotten’ or rather ‘hidden’ or ‘suppressed’?

יהוה was the Name of the Elohim of their fathers, which Mosheh was to tell the Yisra’ĕlites.

יהוה means – “He (The I AM) is the One who causes me to be”! This is very powerful, for every time you call on the Name of יהוה, you are declaring who it is that causes you to be, you are declaring from your lips the One who gives you life, and who made you, and who gives you your very existence! And we are to declare His Name, giving praise to the Great I AM!

In the “Ten Commandments” as we know it, or rather better expressed as “the Ten Words of יהוה”, which were spoken to the Yisra’ĕlites from Mount Sinai, and then written down by the Finger of Elohim on two tablets of stone, the 3rd Commandment is:

Exodus/Shemoth 20:7 “You do not bring the Name of יהוה your Elohim to naught, for יהוה does not leave the one unpunished who brings His Name to naught.

His Name is mentioned a little under 7000 times in the Tanak (O.T.) – and yet they managed over the centuries to bring His Name to naught by not speaking it and replacing it with foreign titles and references.

We are also given further insight into the revelation of the Great I AM as we see being displayed or spoken through the ancient pictographic script, which renders the Name of יהוה as follows:

 heywawheyyad

Yod – י

In the Ancient Script this is the letter ‘yad or yod’ which is pictured as - yad - which is the picture of an arm and hand and carries the meaning of ‘work, make, throw’ from the primary functions of the arm and hand and also represents worship or giving thanks in the extending of hands as a gesture of this. This also reveals to us a stretched out arm and hand.

Hey - ה

The ancient script has this letter as hey and is pictured as a man standing with his arms raised up and out as if pointing to something, and in essence carries the meaning of ‘behold’ as in when looking at something very great. It can also have the meaning to ‘breath’ or ‘sigh’ as when looking at a great sight and having your breath taken away so to speak! It also has the meaning of revelation or to reveal something by pointing it out.

Waw - ו

The ancient pictographic form of this letter is waw, which is a peg or ‘tent peg’ or nail, which was used for securing or tying the tent or other items. The possibility of it having a Y-shape is to show that it prevents the rope from slipping off. The root meaning of this letter is ‘to add, secure or hook’.

In the pictographic representation of the Name of Elohim we are able to clearly see how He, the All Existing One, revealed Himself to His Creation through His Outstretched Arm and Hand. The two pictures of the man and the peg in between them also gives us insight as to how He would come and reveals Himself in the form of a man and secure the Covenants of promise, and in this we are able to see the two comings of Messiah.

Behold the Outstretched Arm of the All Existing One shall come and secure His Covenant and Redeem us in order to establish His House for which He is coming again!

יהוה Ěl Shaddai was now making Himself clearly known to an entire nation, calling this set-apart and chosen nation, according to the promise given to Aḇraham, to ‘know’ Him! To ‘be known’ by Him and to ‘know’ Him as יהוה, clearly represents one who is obedient and guards the clear commands of יהוה Ěl Shaddai!

Yoḥanan Aleph/1 John 2:3-5And by this we know that we know Him, if we guard His commands. 4 The one who says, “I know Him,” and does not guard His commands, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5 But whoever guards His Word, truly the love of Elohim has been perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him.

Yoḥanan Aleph/1 John 3:24And the one guarding His commands stays in Him, and He in him. And by this we know that He stays in us, by the Spirit which He gave us.

Yoḥanan Aleph/1 John 5:2-3By this we know that we love the children of Elohim, when we love Elohim and guard His commands. 3 For this is the love for Elohim, that we guard His commands, and His commands are not heavy

Yoḥanan could not be any clearer than this – to know Elohim is to guard His commands – which means ‘DO’ them as we should!

Timotiyos Bět/2 Timothy 2:19However, the solid foundation of Elohim stands firm, having this seal, “יהוה knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the Name of Messiah turn away from unrighteous-ness.

This question being asked by יהוה to Mosheh is one we ought to ask ourselves as we are clearly confronted with the Truth of the Torah of Elohim; and that is as the Great and Mighty Ěl Shaddai – The One who is Almighty and has the power to deal violently with – appears before us, through the clear revelation of His Torah, “Is He, Ěl Shaddai, not known to us by His Name -  יהוה – The great I AM who causes us to be???”

When we understand the power of His Name that He puts upon us and by which we become known as His own, recognising that He is the One who gives us our very existence, then we will not find it hard or difficult to walk in his clear instructions, for His commands are not heavy! For us to know Ěl Shaddai as יהוה clearly implies that we are wholeheartedly obedient to Him and are faithful servants and ambassadors of His coming reign!

TO KNOW – AND BE KNOWN BY – יהוה!” – A brief message!

Naḥum/Nahum 1:7יהוה is good, as a stronghold in the day of distress. And He knows those who take refuge in Him.

Today there are so many people who will loosely say words like, “He knows my heart” or, “He knows me”, when they are referring to Elohim; and more often than not, these words are usually expressed as a kind of excuse to living lawless lives when being confronted with the need to walk in the Truth and follow the Torah. Many will even say that they know Elohim, yet do they really???

The Hebrew word for ‘knows’ is יָדַע yaḏa – Strong’s H3045 meaning, ‘to know, to acknowledge, clearly understand, to perceive, distinguish and discern’, and this verb can also render the ability to know by experience, and while we recognise that יהוה certainly ‘knows’ all things, we also realise that in terms of יהוה knowing those who take refuge in Him, or that He knows those who are His, there is a deeper intimacy being expressed by the clear experience of a faithful and fruitful relationship between the Creator and His Created beings, that follow and adhere to His clearly prescribed ways for functioning as they should, by being faithfully obedient to His instructions for living set-apart lives unto Him!

The Hebrew word used here for ‘refuge’ is חָסָה ḥasah – Strong’s H2620 which means, to seek refuge, have hope, put trust in (Elohim), which further expresses a deeper intimate relationship of one who fully trusts in and relies upon יהוה, by holding on the sure hope of deliverance to be made complete, as they work out their deliverance with fear and trembling, by walking wholeheartedly in the clear Torah of Elohim!

יהוה chose Yisra’ĕl to be a people for Himself, not because they were more numerous that other peoples, but because of His loving-commitment to Aḇraham, Yitsḥaq and Ya’aqoḇ with whom He established the sure Covenants of Promise! Despite this clear choosing, Yisra’ĕl continually rejected the need to walk in set-apartness, and chose to follow after the ways of the world.

The nation that was chosen to be a light to the nations, did not shine the light of the Truth and as a result were unable to clearly make known to the nations who יהוה is. Despite Yisra’ĕl’s claim to ‘knowיהוה, while they were clearly walking in rebellion to His commands, and יהוה made it clear that despite their lip service, their actions proved that they did not ‘know’ Him!

Yeshayahu/Isaiah 1:3-4 “An ox knows its owner and a donkey its master’s crib – Yisra’ĕl does not know, My people have not understood.” 4 Alas, sinning nation, a people loaded with crookedness, a seed of evil-doers, sons acting corruptly! They have forsaken יהוה, they have provoked the Set-apart One of Yisra’ĕl, they went backward.

In this rebuke given to a rebellious and apostate people, it is made clear that even an ox ‘knows’ its owner and a donkey knows its master’s crib, yet Yisra’ĕl do not know יהוה. Here this word ‘know’ is also the Hebrew word יָדַע yaḏa – Strong’s H3045 and implies the ability to respond to and recognise the Master’s voice.

Yoḥanan/John 10:27My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.

To ‘knowיהוה implies the clear ability to ‘hear’ His voice and guard to do what He commands, for then He shall know His own!!!

Tehillah/Psalm 98:2 “יהוה has made known His deliverance; His righteousness He has openly shown Before the eyes of the nations.

יהוה has made known His deliverance!!! He has done this through His Mighty Outstretched Arm and Hand!

The Hebrew word for ‘hand’ is יָד  ya– Strong’s H3027 and is a primitive root which is translated as, hand, command, authority, power, tenons, side, and the primary meaning of this noun is “the terminal part of the arm used to perform the functions of a man’s will.” We are able to therefore understand in the Hebraic mind-set that one’s hand symbolises what one does or one’s ‘works’.

He has made known His Deliverance, and this He made known through the flesh of יהושע Messiah, who is the Outstretched Arm and Hand of Elohim, and He is the Door, through which we enter into the fullness of knowing יהוה and being known by Him, as we, the sheep of His pasture, listen careful to the Master’s voice and follow Him in loving obedience, for He has brought us a deliverance which we are to work out with fear and trembling, as we obey His voice and guard to do all He commands!

So many today vainly claim that they ‘know’ Elohim, yet He does not ‘know’ them and they clearly do not follow Him, as they do whatever is right in their own eyes!

Tehillah/Psalm 1:6 “For יהוה knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wrong comes to naught.

In this Tehillah, which clearly teaches us the blessing of meditating on the Torah day and night, and not walking in falsehood, it ends with the assurance of being known by יהוה as one walks in righteousness! The Hebrew word translated as ‘way’ is דֶּרֶךְ dereḵ – Strong’s H1870 which means, way, road, distance, journey and is from the word דָּרַךְ daraḵ – Strong’s H1869 which means, to tread or march; and so speaks of our walk, and every step that we take – and our ‘ways’ we are to commit to יהוה:

Tehillah/Psalm 37:5 “Commit your way to יהוה, and trust in Him, and He does it.

As we stay in the Master and He stays in us, we are well equipped to walk even as He walked, as we meditate day and night on His Torah and guard to do all that He commands; and when we obey and walk according to His Word, our ways – that is our walk of obedient faith in the Master - please Him.

the first time this word is used in in:

Berěshith/Genesis 3:24and He drove the man out. And He placed keruḇim at the east of the garden of Ěḏen, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.

Due to the sin of Aḏam and Ḥawwah, they were driven out of the garden of Ěḏen, and driven from the presence of יהוה, with no access to the way to the tree of life! Before they were driven out Elohim made for them coats of skin, and in this we are able to see the powerful shadow picture of the protection and covering we have in יהושע Messiah, the Passover Lamb that was slain for us, in order that we can once again be brought near to the presence of Elohim and have access to the tree of life and have the full assurance of an everlasting life with our Master who shall come and receive us to Himself!

In the ancient pictographic symbols of this word, we are given a greater insight in understanding how יהושע Messiah is THE WAY! This word - דֶּרֶךְ dereḵ - in the ancient script looks like this:

kaphreshdalet

Daletדֶּ

The ancient script has this letter as dalet and is pictured as a ‘tent door’. It can also have the meaning of a back and forth movement as one goes back and forth through a tent door and so speaks of an access point. It can also carry the meaning of ‘dangle’ or hanging as the tent door would hang from the roof pole of the tent. It speaks a great deal in terms of understanding the door of the tent of appointment as the only means of access.

Resh - רֶ

The ancient script has this letter as resh and is pictured as ‘the head of a man’ and has the meaning of the head of a man as well as chief, top, begging or first. Top as in the top or head of a body and chief an is head of a tribe or people as well as the one who rules the people.

Kaph - כֶּ:

The ancient form of this letter is pictured as kaph - which is ‘an open palm of a hand’. The meaning behind this letter is ‘to bend and curve’ from the shape of a palm as well as ‘to tame or subdue’ as one has been bent to another’s will (under their hand), as an open hand symbolises submission. This also can picture for us a palm or palm branch from the curved palm shape. This also pictures for us that which has been openly revealed – by the ‘open hand’, or the revelation of the hand that has worked a function!

As we consider these three pictures in making up the Hebrew word דֶּרֶךְ dereḵ, in reference to this meaning THE WAY, we can clearly see how it is יהושע Messiah who is THE WAY. As we come to the DOOR of the Tent of APPOINTMENT we are able to come and submit under the hand of our Master and Chief, who gives us access into His presence.

Yoḥanan/John 10:19I am the door. Whoever enters through Me, he shall be saved, and shall go in and shall go out and find pasture.

As one understands the design and service of the Tabernacle, then we are able to understand perfectly the clear words of our Master. It was at the door of the Tabernacle that the people would bring their offerings to the Priest, and before they were able to enter they needed to be washed.  Looking at this ancient pictographic of the word that renders for us the meaning of THE WAY, we are also able to see the clear work of our Master, who is the Lamb that was slain, and it was His hands that took the nails for us, and in doing so released us from the dogmas which stood against us! His shed blood covers us from the punishment of death, as long as we remain in Him! The Houses that applied the blood of the lamb to the doorposts of their homes would not be visited by the Messenger of death, but would be passed over, as the final plague in Mitsrayim swept over the land, killing every first born of those homes that did not have the blood on their doorposts!

When Messiah said that He was the Living Bread, and that the bread that He gives is His flesh, which He would give for the life of the world, the Yehuḏim were striving with one another asking how He could give them His flesh to eat and He answered them clearly in:

Yoḥanan/John 6:53יהושע therefore said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Aḏam and drink His blood, you possess no life in yourselves. 54 He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood possesses everlasting life, and I shall raise him up in the last day. 55 “For My flesh is truly food, and My blood is truly drink. 56 “He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood stays in Me, and I in him.

This was a hard teaching for most and many turned away from following the Master, as they found these words too harsh to hear and understand. What Messiah was clearly teaching here is that unless we eat of the Pěsaḥ Meal, we have no access into life. The Passover Meal and the Feast of Matzot is a sign on our hands and our foreheads that we belong to the Master and that we abide in Him and He in us, and that we have come to the Door and confessed our sins, having been immersed in Him and washed by His Blood, are now able to have access into the House into which we must abide, as we are built up in Him as living stones! The WAY for us to return from sin and destruction is to come to the Door and acknowledge the work of the Master as we guard to keep His Feasts. When Messiah showed Himself to His taught ones after His resurrection T’oma was not there the first time and he said that unless he sees in the Master’s hands the mark of the nails, and be able to put his finger into the imprints of the nails and into the Master’s side, that he would not believe. When the Master appeared a second time, while T’oma was present we see the following in:

Yoḥanan/John 20:27-28Then He said to T’oma, “Bring your finger here, and see My hands. And bring your hand and put it into My side – and do not be unbelieving, but believing.” 28 And T’oma answered and said to Him, “My Master and my Elohim!

The Hand of Elohim had now been revealed to T’oma and He acknowledged that יהושע Messiah was his Master and Elohim!

Yeshayahu/Isaiah 53:1 “Who has believed our report? And to whom was the arm of יהוה revealed?

Messiah is THE WAY – the Outstretched Arm and Hand of Elohim that has been revealed, and we who partake in the Pěsaḥ Meal and guard to keep all His Feasts, have access to the WAY He has called us to walk in! For He has fully proclaimed The Way through His life, death and resurrection and leaves no excuse for anyone to be ignorant of the True Way that wisdom shouts from above!

While many today claim to ‘know’ Elohim, their refusal to submit to walking in the Torah and guarding His commands, and their refusal to keep His Appointed Times, simply reveals their lack of knowledge of who Elohim is, and unless they seek Him in order to know Him and walk in Him, will sadly find themselves being rejected by the One who they thought they knew!

Mattithyahu/Matthew 7: 21-23 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Master, Master,’ shall enter into the reign of the heavens, but he who is doing the desire of My Father in the heavens. 22 “Many shall say to Me in that day, ‘Master, Master, have we not prophesied in Your Name, and cast out demons in Your Name, and done many mighty works in Your Name?’ 23 “And then I shall declare to them, ‘I never knew you, depart from Me, you who work lawlessness!

יהושע then proceeded to tell the parable of the one who ‘hears’ His Words and ‘does’ them will be a wise man who builds on the rock!!!

Repeatedly we find throughout the historical records contained in Scripture that both the Houses of Yisra’ĕl and Yehuḏah were often guilty of not ‘hearing’ and acknowledging their Master’s voice, but instead were feeding themselves on pagan traditions rather than the truth – which is a clear mirror image of what we see happening today by many, and more specifically by the church who operate not on the Rock of Truth but rather on the twisted application of man-made and man-driven dogmas rooted in pagan worship – those who follow false tradition over truth are those that do not know Him, and He will declare He never knew them!

We are to pursue to know His word, seeking it out and discern and rightly handle the truth:

Hoshěa/Hosea 6:3So let us know, let us pursue to know יהוה. His going forth is as certain as the morning. And He comes to us like the rain, like the latter rain watering the earth.

Despite the need to continually be pursuing to ‘knowיהוה, so many quickly turn aside to falsehood as they do not ‘know’ the right-ruling of יהוה:

Yirmeyahu/Jeremiah 8:7 “Even a stork in the heavens knows her appointed times. And a turtledove, and a swallow, and a thrush observe the time of their coming. But My people do not know the right-ruling of יהוה.

Yeshayahu was told to go and speak to a rebellious people:

Yeshayahu/Isaiah 6:9 “And He said, “Go, and you shall say to this people, ‘Hearing, you hear, but do not understand; and seeing, you see, but do not know.’

Hearing but not hearing, seeing but not ‘knowing’ – that is the state of so many today!

Yeḥezqěl/Ezekiel 20:20And set apart My Sabbaths, and they shall be a sign between Me and you, to know that I am יהוה your Elohim.

This verse carries great insight for us, in that it clearly instructs us to set-apart יהוה’s Sabbaths, for that would be a sign between us and Him, in order to ‘know’ that He is יהוה our Elohim. I have often said that Sabbath is in many ways a door or entrance point in getting to know יהוה as we should, for it is on His set-apart day that we learn to know Him, as an assembled body of Messiah, that is being made ready as an adorned Bride!

Those who reject the Sabbath and its needed observance, as commanded, will never be able to ‘knowיהוה, no matter how much they claim to ‘know’ Him!

This also reminds us, that none should simply assume to ‘know’ Him just because they understand the importance of Sabbath, while at times they compromise the set-apartness that is called for in guarding the gates on the Sabbath! By that I mean that there are some who will seemingly keep the Sabbath, yet find that they compromise by doing their own pleasures on the Sabbath before it ends!

There are also many who have ‘tasted’ the joy of proper Sabbath keeping, yet have found themselves having gone back to the dogmas of man and have sadly ended up neglecting the need to keep the Sabbath at all! This is very sad, as some begin to ‘knowיהוה, yet in their continued pursuit of growing in their ‘knowledge’ of Him, they grow weary through the pressures of the world and turn away from pursuing to ‘know’ Him, and stop keeping the Sabbath, while erroneously assuming that they ‘knowיהוה and are ‘known’ by Him!

Galatiyim/Galatians 4:9 “But now after you have known Elohim, or rather are known by Elohim, how do you turn again to the weak and poor elementary matters, to which you wish to be enslaved again?

Qorintiyim Aleph/1 Corinthians 8:3 “But if anyone loves Elohim, this one is known by Him.

To love Elohim, gives us the sure promise that we are known by Him! Sadly many do not ‘know’ what love for Elohim is:

Yoḥanan Aleph/1 John 5:3For this is the love for Elohim, that we guard His commands, and His commands are not heavy

Yoḥanan Aleph/1 John 4:8The one who does not love does not know Elohim, for Elohim is love.

The Greek word used for ‘know’ in Yoḥanan Aleph/1 John is γινώσκω ginōskō – Strong’s G1097 which means, to perceive, to learn, to come to know, comprehend, understand, recognise, learn to know, get a knowledge of.

As we sit under the instructions of our Creator and Redeemer, we learn to know Him and get a knowledge of who He is and come to know how we are to live in obedience to His clear Torah. There are so many liars out there today who claim to know Elohim, yet they have no knowledge of His Torah at all, as they refuse to sit and learn His Word – how can they know Him!!! It is one thing to claim that you know Him, yet whether we know Him or not is seen in the fruit of our obedience to His commands, and all will be clearly revealed when He returns – as many will come running claiming they know Him, yet will be rejected!

Those who ‘knowיהוה, by pursuing to know Him, and are guarding His commands in living completely set-apart lives, are known by Him. Aḇraham was ‘known’ by יהוה, because of his obedience in training up his children in righteousness:

Berěshith/Genesis 18:19For I have known him, so that he commands his children and his household after him, to guard the way of יהוה, to do righteousness and right-ruling, so that יהוה brings to Aḇraham what He has spoken to him.

I submit to you that just as I have already mentioned that the Sabbath is a door to ‘knowingיהוה, yet without ‘knowing’ His Name, we cannot pursue to ‘know’ Him! It was the revelation of His Name to Yisra’ĕl in Mitsrayim that caused them to ‘know’ the Elohim of their deliverance!

There are so many who claim to ‘know’ Elohim, yet they do not even know His Name, and they refuse to receive Him by His Name:

Yoḥanan/John 5:43I have come in My Father’s Name and you do not receive Me, if another comes in his own name, him you would receive.

יהושע came in the Father’s Name, for His Name means, יהוה is our deliverer/ יהוה is Salvation!

So many refuse to receive Him and walk as He commands, yet they receive another false messiah who comes in his own name and according to tradition, preaches and proclaims lawlessness!

Many today make their vain boasting in their assumed wisdom and their assumed understanding of Scripture, yet their boasting is in vain, as their rejection of the need to walk in the Torah and call upon, praise and proclaim the Name of יהוה, shows that they do not ‘know’ Him:

Yirmeyahu/Jeremiah 9:24 “but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am יהוה, doing kindness, right-ruling, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight,” declares יהוה.”

יהוה delights in righteousness and right-ruling (in the earth), and so should we who make our boast in Him, who has called us out of darkness into His marvellous light, as we understand and know Him through the clear obedience of guarding His commands and living set-apart lives!

Tas’loniqim Aleph/1 Thessalonians 4:3-5 “For this is the desire of Elohim: your set-apartness! – that you should abstain from whoring, 4 that each one of you should know how to possess his own vessel in set-apartness and respect, 5 not in passion of lust, like the gentiles who do not know Elohim

We are clay vessels, that have through the Blood of Messiah been made into vessels unto value in the House, as we continue to serve Him and His body in complete set-apartness!

We are to continually possess our vessels in set-apartness, lest we find ourselves in the place where we are found to not have ‘known’ Elohim, for the fate of those who do not know Him is clear:

Tas’loniqim Bět/2 Thessalonians 1:8 “in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know Elohim, and on those who do not obey the Good News of our Master יהושע Messiah

So many profess to know Elohim, but in their works they deny Him!!! Their works are works of falsehood and lies that have been handed down through vain traditions and dogmas of man

Titos/Titus 1:16 “They profess to know Elohim, but in works they deny Him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unfit for any good work.

In commissioning His Talmidim (disciples) to go to the lost sheep of Yisra’ĕl and proclaim the Kingdom reign in Mattithyahu/Matthew 10, יהושע was instructing them on how they ought to go in courage and complete trust in Him, and that while they would be hated for His Name’s sake, they should not fear man, and He warned them that if they denied Him before men would be denied before the Father who is in the heavens.

Sha’ul tells us in Timotiyos Bět/ 2Timothy 2:12 that if we endure, we shall reign with Messiah, however if we deny Him, He will deny us!!!

To endure and not deny Him implies that we ‘know’ Him and walk in His Word and obey His Torah and proclaim His Kingdom Reign. To disregard the need to hear-guard and do His commands and walk according to His Torah and keep His Sabbaths and Appointed Times will receive the clear rebuke and rejection of not having been known by Him, as I mentioned earlier from Mattithyahu/Matthew 7!

We shall be known by our fruit! Does the fruit of your life reflect the clear message of one who ‘knows; Elohim and as one who is ‘known’ by Elohim?

As we consider the need – TO KNOW – AND BE KNOWN BY – יהוה – may this brief message cause you to daily consider your ways, that you may truly be found to know Him and be known by Him.

In this call to pursue to ‘know Elohim’ let us hold fast to the sure hope of being ‘known by Him’, as we diligently guard to do all He commanded us to do and express our true loving commitment in living set-apart lives unto Him who calls us to ‘know Him’. So when you are asked, or even ask yourself on a daily basis, ‘Do I know, and am I known by יהוה?’ may you consider carefully your how you live, and make your bold and confident confession of יהוה our Elohim – as you let your life declare your knowledge of Him, with the full assurance of being known by Him!

BACK TO SHEMOTH/EXODUS 6:

Verse 4 – Here we are given a clear emphasis on the covenant that is established - for without it we are not His!

The Hebrew root word used here for ‘establish’ is קוּם  qum – Strong’s H6965 and is written in the hiphil active tense, which is the causative action of the root, and therefore means, to cause to arise, to raise, to set up, build, to establish’. The One who causes to be is the One who causes His Covenant to be set up and established, and when He sets it up it shall not be taken down!

The Hebrew word that is translated here as ‘covenant’ comes from the word בְּרִיתִיberiythiy, which literally translates as ‘My Covenant’ and this comes from the noun בְּרִית beriyth – Strong’s H1285 which means, covenant, confederacy, alliance, pledge, treaty, constitution, ordinance, agreement.

Primarily we take note that this term is used to describe the agreement or constitution that is established between Elohim and man, and such ordinances are accompanied by a sign or pledge.

This noun is believed to come from the root verb בָּרָה barah – Strong’s H1262 which means, to eat, choose, which gives us a better understanding in terms of a ‘Covenant Meal’ where eating together establishes the covenant between the parties!

In the first usage of this root word בְּרִית beriyth – Strong’s H1285 we clearly see יהוה declaring that He will establish His covenant with Noaḥ. Here in this verse we see a clear promise being given to Noaḥ that יהוה will establish His covenant with Noaḥ and his family would come into the ark with him. The next time we see this noun being used is in Berěshith/Genesis 9 where this promised Covenant is established with Noaḥ by יהוה:

Berěshith/Genesis 9:9-17 And I, see, I establish My covenant with you and with your seed after you, 10 and with every living creature that is with you: of the birds, of the cattle, and of every beast of the earth with you, of all that go out of the ark, every beast of the earth. 11 “And I shall establish My covenant with you, and never again is all flesh cut off by the waters of the flood, and never again is there a flood to destroy the earth.” 12 And Elohim said, “This is the sign of the covenant which I make between Me and you, and every living creature that is with you, for all generations to come: 13 “I shall set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth. 14 “And it shall be, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the rainbow shall be seen in the cloud, 15 and I shall remember My covenant which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh, and never again let the waters become a flood to destroy all flesh. 16 “And the rainbow shall be in the cloud, and I shall see it, to remember the everlasting covenant between Elohim and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.” 17 And Elohim said to Noaḥ, “This is the sign of the covenant which I have established between Me and all flesh that is on the earth.

In this passage we see the word בְּרִית beriyth – Strong’s H1285 being used 7 times, 3 times being clearly expressed by יהוה as ‘My Covenant’, while 3 times we see the significance being made in reference to ‘the sign of the covenant’ and once we are given the clear truth that this is an ‘everlasting covenant’.

Ok, so here in Scripture we are given the first account of any covenant that is made and established, along with a specific sign of the covenant. What is also important to take note of here is that with the instruction being given in regards to the purpose of the covenant is that the sign of the covenant will cause us to remember the everlasting covenant. This teaches me how serious a covenant is, and highlights the clear truth of the fact that when יהוה establishes a covenant it is forever, and therefore sets a clear standard for any covenant that would be made between men!

This first covenant was established with Noaḥ and all mankind, as we take note the clear covenant being established with Noaḥ and his seed after him, which includes all mankind that would come from his three sons. This covenant was also established with every living creature that was with them on the ark. This first covenant that יהוה made with man and every living creature was that he would never again cut off all flesh by the waters of the flood and that a flood would never again destroy the whole earth! This covenant stands forever, as we have the firm assurance that the earth will never be destroyed by a flood! While floods may take place in various parts of the earth and bring much destruction we take note that the covenant promise that was given here to Noaḥ was and is established forever. We know that the consuming fire of יהוה is coming in the Day of His wrath yet He will not destroy the earth with flood waters again!

The next time that we see the noun בְּרִית beriyth – Strong’s H1285 being used is in:

Berěshith/Genesis 14:13And one who had escaped came and informed Aḇram the Hebrew, for he dwelt by the terebinth trees of Mamrĕ the Amorite, brother of Eshkol and brother of Anĕr, and they had a covenant with Aḇram.

This is of course not a covenant between יהוה and man but rather highlights for us that a strong bond of agreement was established between Aḇram and the Amorites.

The reason why I am highlighting this verse is to show that covenants were made between men and nations, and while I will not be highlighting every occasion that this take place in Scripture I simply want it to be clear that this did take place. For the sake of this article I will stick to the passages that specifically deal with covenants that pertain to יהוה and His people, which brings me to the account where יהוה made a covenant with Aḇram (which by the way is the next time we see this word for covenant being used):

Berěshith/Genesis 15:18On the same day יהוה made a covenant with Aḇram, saying, “I have given this land to your seed, from the river of Mitsrayim to the great river, the River Euphrates

This was the day that יהוה made covenant with Aḇram.

Berěshith/Genesis 15 contains a clear covenant making process which shadow pictures the clear prophetic promise of Messiah coming to restore and renew יהוה’s covenant with the seed of Aḇraham.

יהוה had given Aḇram a very significant promise that he would be established and his reward be exceedingly great.

Aḇram then asks יהוה how he will know that he does possess this promise and this is where יהוה makes a Covenant with Aḇram that pictures for us the great promise of יהוה who satisfies the Covenant with us and seals it in His own Blood!

Aḇram is instructed to bring a 3 year old heifer, female goat, ram, a turtle dove and a pigeon, which he took and cut them in half and set them in place. The reason for a 3 year old heifer, goat and ram speaks of maturity and the bringing of both the male and female of the same kind (goat and ram) is a picture of a bride and bridegroom; and while the reason for them being 3 years old may be unclear it certainly represents maturity; and when considering that this Covenant that was being made points toward the work of Messiah we can see that the 3 year old animals picture the fullness of His complete work for us as His ready Bride. At Pěsaḥ there is the slaughtering of a year old lamb, and certainly at Pěsaḥ Messiah, who had a 70 week ministry was the fulfilment of the shadow picture of the Pěsaḥ Lamb by being the year old Lamb that was slain.

Yet what we must understand here is that as we are told in:

Dani’ěl/Daniel 9:27 “And he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week. And in the middle of the week he shall put an end to slaughtering and meal offering. And on the wing of abominations he shall lay waste, even until the complete end and that which is decreed is poured out on the one who lays waste.

Messiah, in the middle of the week – that is on the 4th day (4th Millennium), came and put an end to slaughtering and meal offering – in other words He by the offering up of His flesh put an end to all slaughtering of bulls and goats that could never satisfy but only pointed to Messiah! Having said that we also recognise that His one-time sacrifice at Pěsaḥ also satisfies the sacrifices done on Yom Kippur in order to cleanse and set-apart the Temple and all the people as a collective body/nation! The 3 year old animals here reflect the fullness of this Covenant that is established in the Blood of Messiah that points both ways from day 4 (4th Millennium) in confirming His Covenant for a week (full 7 days – 7 Millennium) and His middle of the week end of slaughtering satisfies the Blood necessary once for all. From the 4th back to 1 is 3 and from the 4th to the 7th is 3, and therefore we find in this calling for a 3 year old heifer, which points to the red heifer that Messiah fulfils, and the 3 year old ram and goat that satisfies the full Atonement at the final Yom Kippur when He comes to fetch His ready and mature Bride, is being firmly established in type here with the Covenant of Promise between יהוה and Aḇram and all his seed!

When יהוה made the Covenant with Aḇraham, Aḇraham prepared the sacrifices and was then put to sleep (verse 12). In a typical ancient covenant process both parties would walk bare foot through the blood of the animals that were cut in two, known as the blood path and proclaim the blessing and curses of the covenant; they would exchange robes and weapons to declare their commitment to provision and protection for each other and if any party broke that covenant their blood would be spilled as the animals were. Here Aḇraham did not walk through the blood path – he was put to sleep while a pillar of fire came down and passed through the sacrifices (verse 17). In effect יהוה was declaring that day that when the children of Aḇraham break covenant with the Almighty, He Himself would come down and walk the blood path and pay the price, shedding His Blood, in order to restore the Covenant which He does not break!

This is exactly what happened – The Blood of the Lamb at Pěsaḥ/Passoverיהושע came down to restore by His own Blood a Bride to Himself. He came once again to pay the Bride price in His own Blood; and all who call upon Him and accept the ‘cup’ of the covenant could once again be brought near and grafted in to the Marriage Covenant as He exchanged robes with us in taking the punishment of our sin upon Himself and clothing us with righteousness.

At Shavuot/Pentecost we see once again the Marriage Covenant being announced through the sound from heaven – the first shofar being renewed and restored where the marriage contract or Ketuḇah was no longer on stone tablets but now on the heart.

Just as Yisra’ĕl was given 2 days to get ready at Mount Sinai and on the third be ready – יהושע, the light of the world came in the 4th day – (4th millennium) and has given His Bride, those who have been bought at a price and said ‘I do’, 2 days (5 and 6)to get ready, and on the 3rd day (which would be the 7th – 7th Millennium) He will come down and take us back to Himself as the sound of the last shofar ushers in His coming and the finishing of His work in destroying the enemy and fulfilling all His Feasts culminating in the great Wedding Supper of the Lamb which will take place at the Feast of Tabernacles/Sukkot.

יהושע is the groom and we are His Bride. He has paid the Bride price in full with Blood and has sealed the Ketuḇah or Marriage Covenant and has gone to prepare a place for us. And now we eagerly await His return with our lamps filled with oil and burning brightly is this dark world showing that we are betrothed, clothed in righteousness and keeping our garments spotless by walking in obedience to the Torah/instructions of יהוה, keeping our marriage contract pure! יהושע, our Righteous King is coming, and He is coming at the sound of the ‘Last shofar’ which will be the last of the Trumpets that begin at Yom Teru‘ah  and end on Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) to come and ‘lift up’ and ‘take’ His Bride to be with Him forever!

In verse 16 we see that יהוה tells Aḇram that his descendants would be in Mitsrayim for four generations and we take note here that Mosheh was the great grandson of Ya’aqoḇ, and it was in the generation of Mosheh’s son that Yisra’ĕl was delivered – therefore fulfilling these words being given here to Aḇram that in the 4th generation Yisra’ĕl would return to this land where the Covenant was being made, and it would be יהוה Himself who would deliver them out of bondage.

It is in this Chapter that we see how יהוה made’ a covenant with Aḇram, and the Hebrew word for ‘made’ is כָּרַת karath – Strong’s H3772 which means, to cut off, cut down, cut covenant.

This word is used in reference to the Covenant made with Aḇraham and was made by the ‘cutting’ of animals and the flow of their blood’, which was restored in the perfect Blood of Messiah, the sinless Lamb whose blood satisfies what animals could never, and so herein lies the clear prophetic promise of the sure and secured Covenant that יהוה would make in His own Blood. This awesome wonder that would be done, would ultimately point toward the most amazing work of redemption that would be made for mankind, as יהוה Himself would come down and secure His Covenant with us and cleanse us from all crookedness and sin, in His own precious Blood!

Understanding this ‘cutting’ we recognise that those who are not grafted into the Covenants of promise by the Blood of Messiah and guard to keep His commands shall be ‘cut off’ completely and have no access to life!

Tehillah/Psalm 37:37-38 “Watch the perfect, and observe the straight; for the latter end of each is peace. 38 But the transgressors shall be destroyed together; the latter end of the wrong shall be cut off.

We need to jump a couple of chapters ahead to see this covenant being established with Aḇraham.

In Berěshith/Genesis 17 this word בְּרִית beriyth – Strong’s H1285 is used 12 times!!!

Once again, as with the covenant made with Noaḥ, we take note that this covenant that was made with Aḇraham is an everlasting covenant and this covenant was also given a sign!

Berěshith/Genesis 17: 2-21 And I give My covenant between Me and you, and shall greatly increase you.” 3 And Aḇram fell on his face, and Elohim spoke with him, saying, 4 “As for Me, look, My covenant is with you, and you shall become a father of many nations. 5 “And no longer is your name called Aḇram, but your name shall be Abraham, because I shall make you a father of many nations. 6 “And I shall make you bear fruit exceedingly, and make nations of you, and sovereigns shall come from you. 7 “And I shall establish My covenant between Me and you and your seed after you in their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be Elohim to you and your seed after you. 8 “And I shall give to you and your seed after you the land of your sojournings, all the land of Kena’an, as an everlasting possession. And I shall be their Elohim.” 9 And Elohim said to Aḇraham, “As for you, guard My covenant, you and your seed after you throughout their generations. 10 “This is My covenant which you guard between Me and you, and your seed after you: Every male child among you is to be circumcised. 11 “And you shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin, and it shall become a sign of the covenant between Me and you. 12 “And a son of eight days is circumcised by you, every male child in your generations, he who is born in your house or bought with silver from any foreigner who is not of your seed. 13 “He who is born in your house, and he who is bought with your silver, has to be circumcised. So shall My covenant be in your flesh, for an everlasting covenant. 14 “And an uncircumcised male child, who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin, his life shall be cut off from his people – he has broken My covenant.” 15 And Elohim said to Aḇraham, “As for Sarai your wife, do not call her name Sarai, for Sarah is her name. 16 “And I shall bless her and also give you a son by her. And I shall bless her, and she shall become nations – sovereigns of peoples are to be from her.” 17 And Aḇraham fell on his face and laughed, and said in his heart, “Is a child born to a man who is a hundred years old? Or is Sarah, who is ninety years old, to bear a child?” 18 And Aḇraham said to Elohim, “Oh, let Yishma’ĕl live before You!” 19 And Elohim said, “No, Sarah your wife is truly bearing a son to you, and you shall call his name Yitsḥaq. And I shall establish My covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him. 20 “And as for Yishma’ĕl, I have heard you. See, I shall bless him, and shall make him bear fruit, and greatly increase him. He is to bring forth twelve princes, and I shall make him a great nation. 21 “But My covenant I establish with Yitsḥaq, whom Sarah is to bear to you at this set time next year.

In this passage we see the word בְּרִית beriyth – Strong’s H1285 being used 12 times, 8 times being clearly expressed by יהוה as ‘My Covenant’, while once we see the significance being made in reference to ‘the sign of the covenant’ and 3 times we are given the clear truth that this is an ‘everlasting covenant’.

The Hebrew word for ‘everlasting’ is עוֹלָם olam – Strong’s H5769 which means, long duration, antiquity, continual, all successive, everlasting, forever, permanent, unending, perpetual, and clearly represents for us that which pertains to an unlimited duration of time, with a focus of no anticipated end!

What we take note of here is that the sign of this covenant was ‘circumcision’, and we take note therefore that there is no such thing as a ‘covenant of circumcision’ but that circumcision was the sign of this everlasting covenant that was given to Aḇraham.

A sign that would be ‘until the Seed’, which is Messiah! For a better understanding on this hotly debated topic of circumcision please see the notes from our Torah portion commentary from Berěshith/Genesis 17.

He constantly impresses upon us His Covenant, for His Covenant with us as Yisra’ĕl His Bride is that by which we are defined as His own. The cry of Yisra’ĕl in Mitsrayim was heard by יהוה because of His Covenants of Promise given to Aḇraham, Yitsḥaq and Ya’aqoḇ, the Covenants of Promise that without Messiah we were once excluded from, but are now brought near to and grafted into by the blood of Messiah!

Eph’siyim/Ephesians 2:11-13 “Therefore remember that you, once gentiles in the flesh, who are called ‘the uncircumcision’ by what is called ‘the circumcision’ made in the flesh by hands, 12 that at that time you were without Messiah, excluded from the citizenship of Yisra’ĕl and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no expectation and without Elohim in the world. 13 But now in Messiah יהושע you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of the Messiah.

This promise to be a covenant people was made clear to the entire nation of Yisra’ĕl as they stood at Mount Sinai and were about to enter into the Marriage Covenant and become the Bride of יהוה!

Shemoth/Exodus 19:5-6 “And now, if you diligently obey My voice, and shall guard My covenant, then you shall be My treasured possession above all the peoples – for all the earth is Mine – 6 ‘and you shall be to Me a reign of priests and a set-apart nation.’ Those are the words which you are to speak to the children of Yisra’ĕl.

A treasured possession above all peoples! A reign of priests and a set-apart nation! This is what the people who guard His covenant are!

Kěpha/Aleph/1 Peter 2:9-10But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a set-apart nation, a people for a possession, that you should proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvellous light, 10 who once were not a people, but now the people of Elohim; who had not obtained compassion, but now obtained compassion.

Kěpha was reminding us that we are a ‘covenant people’! A covenant people are a set-apart priesthood, and this is important to understand in terms of this covenant, as we take note that Yisra’ĕl failed in their duty at being a nation of priests, and so the tribe of Lĕwi was chosen to be priests unto Elohim and serve in the Tabernacle.

From Scripture it becomes abundantly clear that the Covenant of our Master is His Covenant that He has caused us to be grafted into and serve as His priesthood forever, and walk in the peace of His Covenant that can never be changed as His blood speaks better than that of bulls and goats, as it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.

While I have not touched many of the passages that highlight how Yisra’ĕl broke covenant or the various covenants that we see being made between man and man, what becomes very clear is that it is only when one understands covenant and the everlasting nature of it that one begins to grasps the responsibility that comes with being in covenant with our Elohim, as the sobering reality that we cannot disregard His Torah becomes abundantly clear!

The Hebrew word בְּרִית beriyth – Strong’s H1285 in the ancient text looks like this:

tawyadreshbeit

Beyt - בְּ:

The ancient script has this letter as beit, which pictures a tent floor plan and means, ‘house’ or ‘tent’. It represents family and the importance of those who are inside the tent as opposed to the tent structure itself. We also recognise that the House/Dwelling Place of Elohim is the body of Elohim that is built up as living stones in our Master, יהושע Messiah. A house/tent speaks of your family and to whom you belong and under whom you submit and adhere to, as the House of Elohim has clear instructions for those in the House! The Light (that is His Word) is for those in the House!

Reshרִ:

The ancient script has this letter as resh and is pictured as ‘the head of a man’ and has the meaning of the head of a man as well as ‘chief, top, begging or first’. It means ‘top’, as in the top or head of a body; and ‘chief’, as in a head of a tribe or people; as well as the one who rules the people. Every House has a head of the home, and all in the House submit to the instructions of the One who is head of the home, listening to and obeying the words that the Head speaks!

Yod – י:

The ancient script has this letter as yad which is ‘an arm and hand’, and carries the meaning of ‘work, make, throw’, from the primary functions of the arm and hand, and it also represents worship or giving thanks in the extending of hands as a gesture of this. The work of one’s hands is the basic meaning of this letter! And this letter also pictures for us the outstretched Arm and working Hand of Elohim that is not too short to save!

Taw – ת

The ancient script has this letter as taw which is pictured as two crossed sticks, and can represent for us ‘seal, covenant, mark or sign; as this once again points to the complete work of Messiah in the renewal of the Covenant in His Blood that brings the two Houses of Yisra’ĕl and Yehuḏah together in Him, as One, for He is not only the ‘aleph’, but is also the ‘taw’ – the beginning and the end of all creation!

As we consider this word for ‘covenant’ - בְּרִית beriyth – Strong’s H1285 – in the ancient pictographic text then we are able to understand the clear assurance that we have, as the House or Dwelling Place of Elohim!

THE HEAD OF THE HOUSE HAS BY HIS OUTSTRETCHED ARM AND HAND SECURED FOR US AN EVERLASTING COVENANT BY SEALING IT IN HIS OWN BLOOD!

While we certainly recognise and understand that there are many facets to the Covenant that our Creator has made and established with His chosen and called out priesthood, we recognise that our Master and Elohim does not break Covenant and He remains lovingly-committed to His ‘Covenants of Promise’ with Aḇraham, Yitsḥaq and Ya’aqoḇ.

Verse 5 – יהוה hears and He remembers!

יהוה made it very clear to Mosheh that He has heard the groaning of the children of Yisra’ĕl who were being enslaved and that He had remembered His covenant!

יהוה hears the groaning cry for help and remembers His covenant and shows compassion, despite the many times that His people had rebelled against Him, for He is lovingly-committed to His Covenants of Promise, as we see in:

Tehillah/Psalm 106:43-46 “Many times He delivered them; but they rebelled in their plans, so they were brought low for their crookedness. 44 But He would look on their distress, when He heard their cry, 45 and remember His covenant for their sake, and relent according to the greatness of His kindness. 46 And He would let them find compassion, before all those holding them captive.

The word used here for ‘remember’ is זָכַר zaar – Strong’s H2142 which means ‘to remember, or be mindful, or bring to remembrance’. It is not that He forgets, but rather that He never forgets!!! He is continually mindful of His Covenant and for this we can be extremely thankful!

Verses 6-8 – When יהוה says “I shall” – He means it!

7 “I shall” statements:

Translated into English we have here 7 ‘shall’ statements in these 3 verses, and this reflects the clear actions that יהוה promises to do for His people. What is worth taking note of is that in the Hebrew we see the emphasise is clearly placed on what He – יהוה Ěl Shaddai – is going to ‘DO’ for Yisra’ĕl; as he tells Mosheh to address the children of Yisra’ĕl and tell them what He is going to do for them. And we see here the clear words that are still alive and clear for us today, when יהוה says what He shall do for us! These statements are personal and are directed to the collective nation of Yisra’ĕl as ‘you’ or ‘your’, and the term in Hebrew for ‘you’ or ‘your’ comes from the root word אַתָּה attah – Strong’s H859 which means, you (in the masculine singular form), which is written here in the ‘plural’ and is written as אֶתְכֶם eth’ḵem. We take careful note that this אֶתְכֶם eth’ḵem is used 7 times here in the clear indication of addressing who יהוה would deliver and redeem and take as His own! The construct of אֶתְכֶם  – eth’ḵem is made up of the root אַתָּה attah – Strong’s H859 and אֵת  eth – Strong’s H853 which is a word that is seen as an ‘untranslated participle’ and is used as a direct object marker for which we have no equivalent in English. Therefore this is used as a sign of the definite direct object, not translated in English but generally preceding and indicating the accusative, which is the grammatical case that marks the direct object of a verb or the object of any or several prepositions. In other words this marks the sign of who the action is being done to, and also represents for us a powerful picture of who it is that is doing the action! יהוה is addressing the children of Yisra’ĕl and t is them that He is going to do as He says, with the clear sign of the direct object being Yisra’ĕl who would be redeemed, delivered and saved by יהוה Himself!

יהוה, who is the ‘Aleph and Taw’ (אֵת) gives the sure 7 promises to ‘you’ – plural of Yisra’ĕlאֶתְכֶם  – eth’ḵem gives us a clear marker of who it is who delivers, redeems and takes you as His own – it is The ‘Aleph and Taw’ (אֵת ) who does this to YOU!

Ḥazon/Revelation 1:8 I am the ‘Aleph’ and the ‘Taw’, Beginning and End,” says יהוה “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.

Let us now take a look at these 7 I SHALL statements – the 7 promises that are marked with the direct marker אֶתְכֶם eth’ḵem’:

1 -AND I SHALL BRING YOU OUTוְהוֹצֵאתִי אֶתְכֶם uhotseyathiy eth’ḵem

The first promise is clear as יהוה says, “I shall bring you out from your burdens”. The term ‘bring out’ comes from the Hebrew root word יָצָא yatsa – Strong’s H3318 which means, to go or come out, brought forth, depart and it is written in the ‘hiphil’ form which represents a causative action and can be rendered as, to cause to go or bring out, to deliver, to lead out’.

The Hebrew root word used for ‘burdens’ is סִבְלָה siḇlah – Strong’s H5450 which means, burdens, hard labour and comes from the root verb סָבַל saḇal – Strong’s H5445 which means, to bear a heavy load, carry, drag. The word סִבְלָה siḇlah is used 6 times in Scripture and all are found in the Book of Shemoth, and it is used to speak of the burdens and hard labour that the sovereign of Mitsrayim put the children of Yisra’ĕl under and what Mosheh saw, and what Elohim promised to bring them out from. With this being used 6 times we can see how the effects of man (as referenced by the number 6) and his own man-made traditions and dogmas only enslave and bring a burden to man, a burden that man was not designed to carry and it is only Elohim who can bring us out from these burdens of man’s dogmas and traditions.

The verb סָבַל saḇal, in speaking of carrying the burden, we see how יהושע Messiah carries our iniquities and in Him many are made righteous:

Yeshayahu/Isaiah 53:11 “He would see the result of the suffering of His life and be satisfied. Through His knowledge My righteous Servant makes many righteous, and He bears their crookednesses.

2 -AND I SHALL DELIVER YOU – וְהִצַּלְתִּי אֶתְכֶם – ‘uhitsaltiy eth’ḵem.

The second I shall promise is that יהוה shall deliver us from enslavement - The Hebrew root word for ‘deliver’ is נָצַל natsal – Strong’s H5337 meaning, to strip, plunder, deliver oneself, be delivered, snatch away, deliver, recover, escape. This is also written in the causative ‘hiphil’ form which can render the meaning, to take away, snatch away, to rescue, recover, to deliver (from enemies or troubles or death), to deliver from sin and guilt.

Tehillah/Psalm 18:17 “He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from those hating me, for they were stronger than I.

The word used for ‘enslavement’ is עֲבֹדָה  aḇoah – Strong’s H5656 meaning, labour, service, bondage and comes from the root עָבַד  aḇa – Strong’s H5647 meaning, to work, serve, become slaves, burdened, cultivate, do the work and is also translated at times as ‘worship. While this word carries the meaning of service and labour, we recognise that what Messiah came to deliver us from – and that is worship and labour to a false worship system that enslaves under the disguise of an assumed freedom! He came to deliver us from ‘service and bondage’ to ‘them’ and in doing so he paid the price for us to become His bondservant forever!!!

3 - … AND I SHALL REDEEM YOUוְגָאַלְתִּי אֶתְכֶם – ‘uga’altiy eth’ḵem.

The 3rd promise given here is that יהוה shall redeem us with His Outstretched Arm and with great judgements. The Hebrew root word for ‘redeem’ is גָּאַל ga’al – Strong’s H1350 meaning, ‘to redeem, act as kinsman, avenge, buy back, claim, redeemer, avenger of blood,  rescue’. This word is also used to refer to our Redeemer in the form גֹּאֲלִי ga’ali meaning, ‘my Redeemer’ as in:

Iyoḇ/Job 19:25 “For I know that my Redeemer lives, and as the Last shall rise over the dust

In Tehillah/Psalm 103 Dawiḏ reminds us not to forget the dealings of יהוה – as He has redeemed our life from destruction!

He ‘redeems’ us with His ‘outstretched arm’ – The word used for ‘outstretched’ is the primitive root נָטָה natah – Strong’s H5186 meaning, to stretch out, spread out, extend, incline.

Yeshayahu/Isaiah 31:3 “And the Mitsrites are men, and not Ěl. And their horses are flesh, and not spirit. And when יהוה stretches out His hand, both he who helps shall stumble, and he who is helped shall fall. And they shall all fall, together.

Yeḥezqěl/Ezekiel 20:33-34 “As I live,” declares the Master יהוה, “do not I, with a mighty hand, with an outstretched arm, and with wrath poured out, reign over you? 34 And I shall bring you out from the peoples and gather you out of the lands where you are scattered, with a mighty hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with wrath poured out.

Melaḵim Bět/2 Kings 17:36 “but יהוה, who brought you up from the land of Mitsrayim with great power and with an outstretched arm, Him you shall fear, and to Him you shall bow yourselves, and to Him you shall slaughter.

4 – (verse 7)AND I SHALL TAKE YOUוְלָקַחְתִּי אֶתְכֶם – ‘ulaqahtiy eth’ḵem

Sure promise ‘number 4’ is that יהוה shall take us as His own – that is to say that we have the full assurance of this word made sure in Messiah, His Outstretched Arm, that we shall become His people! The Hebrew root word for ‘take’ is לָקַח laqaḥ - Strong’s H3947 and carries the meaning, take, fetch, lay hold of, seize, snatch away, take away, lead. Now we may recognise this term as it can speak in a positive sense the picture of Messiah coming to lift up and take His Bride, and is used in Ruth when we see when Bo’az took Ruth and she became his wife:

Ruth 4:13 “And Bo’az took Ruth and she became his wife. And he went in to her, and יהוה granted her conception, and she bore a son.

It also carries the meaning, to lift up, accept, accepted, bring, receive and also means marries, married and often is used in terms of the Bride of Messiah who is accepted and taken up by Him – as He receives Her to Himself.

Now listen to this – The Great Feast of Trumpets text in the Renewed Covenant (N.T.), speaking of יהושע coming for us, His Bride is:

Tas‘loniqim Aleph/1 Thessalonians 4:16-18 “Because the Master Himself shall come down from heaven with a shout, with the voice of a chief messenger, and with the trumpet of Elohim, and the dead in Messiah shall rise first. 17 Then we, the living who are left over, shall be caught away together with them in the clouds to meet the Master in the air – and so we shall always be with the Master. 18 So, then, encourage one another with these words.

Notice here in this passage the words ‘caught away together’ – In Greek is ‘harpazo hama’ – ἁρπάζω (G726 – harpazo – caught up) and ἅμα (G260 – hama – together) which corresponds with the Hebrew terms, ‘laqaḥ’ and נָשָׂא nasaStrong’s H5375 meaning,to lift, carry, take. The Bride will be taken and lifted up by the Bridegroom and so the second part of the marriage will take place when Messiah comes again and lift us up and takes us with Him to the great Wedding Feast. He is coming for His Bride who has made herself ready – He is not coming for part of His Bride – then coming for the rest – He is coming for His ready Bride! This is NOT a rapture Scripture!!! This is our Husband coming for His ready Bride to take her to the wedding feast – after Tribulation at His second coming!

5 -AND I SHALL BE YOUR ELOHIMוְהָיִיתִי לָכֶם לֵאלֹהִים – ‘uhayiytiy laḵem loelohiym

We shall know that He is יהוה our Elohim!

We see a very powerful construct of promises being given here to Yisra’ĕl. Promises that certainly teach and remind us of the work of redemption and deliverance that He has wrought for us and the sure promises we have in Messiah that will be fulfilled when he comes for us, a Ready Bride!

While the אֵת eth – Strong’s H853 is not seen in the construct form with the ‘ḵem’, we are given a clear understanding that we shall know that the Aleph and Taw’ (אֵת) is our Elohim!

The term “I shall be” comes from the Hebrew root word הָיָה hayah – Strong’s H1961 which means, be, come to pass, come about, appear, be in existence, to come into being, arise. By the power of His working deliverance He will cause to be known as our Elohim!

The progression of these ‘I shall’ statements carries a clear flow that teaches us of the power of our Almighty Elohim. He first ‘brings us out from our burdens’ – that is He causes us to be set free from the burdens and hard labour of traditions that weighed us down. In this process of Him bringing us out of our burdens, He ‘delivers us from enslavement’ – causing us to be free from the enslavement to dogmas and traditions of man. This He does through His work of redemption, ‘redeeming us by His Outstretched Arm and Hand’, where He can then ‘take us as His own’. Now that He has taken us as His own – He shall therefore be ‘our Elohim’. And from the next two ‘I shall’ statements carry the sure promise of our sojourning here as true ambassadors, being rewarded with the sure inheritance of that which has been promised to us, His own!

In a nutshell – יהוה breaks the yoke of slavery to the dogmas, traditions and enslavement to man, and delivers us from all that held us under subjection to falsehood and lies, redeeming us, by His own Blood, so that we can be grafted into the Covenants of Promise that we were once far off from, and are adopted as sons, becoming His own, to which He promises to let us, who stay in Him and walk in Him, enter into His rest and dwell with him forever!

6 - … AND YOU SHALL KNOW THAT I AM יהוה YOUR ELOHIM WHO IS BRINGING YOU OUT:

וִידַעְתֶּם כִּי אֲנִי יהוה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם הַמּוֹצִיא אֶתְכֶם  –  viyḏ’atem ḵi ani יהוה Eloheyḵem hamotsiya eth’ḵem

In this statement the ‘shall’ is placed on us knowing that it is יהוה who brings us out from the burdens of the Mitsrites! In other words, we shall know that it is יהוה who brings us out from the burdens of this world! The Hebrew root word for ‘bringing out’ is יָצָא  yatsa – Strong’s H3318 which means, to go or come out and here it is written in the ‘Hiphil’ form which usually expresses a ‘causative action’ of a simple verb and so can be rendered as, to cause to go out or come out, to deliver, to lead out’. The 6thshall’ statement here is a confirmation to us of who it is who has promised to bring us out from our burdens given to us in the first ‘I shall’!

7 – (verse 8)AND I SHALL BRING YOU INTOוְהֵבֵאתִי אֶתְכֶם  – uheyeyathiy eth’ḵem

I shall bring you into The Promised Land. The Hebrew term ‘bring you in’ in the Hebrew is from the root word בּוֹא bo – Strong’s H935 which means, to come in, go in, bring in, enter, to cause to come in, to bring near.

It is יהוה who causes us to enter into the Promises through the Blood of Messiah!!! And it is יהוה who has caused us to come forth from the ‘side’ of Messiah and be brought to Him as a prepared Bride:

Berěshith/Genesis 2:22 “And the rib which יהוה Elohim had taken from the man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man.

Along with this sure promise of being brought into the Promised Land we see the clear promise that it will be ours for He says that he brings us in to give it to us as an inheritance!  The meek shall inherit the earth!!

The word used for ‘give’ is נָתַן Nathan – Strong’s H5414 which means, to give, put, set, ascribe, devote, give over, deliver up and a derivative of this word is נְתִינִים Nethinim – Strong’s H5411 which were the ‘temple servants’ or ‘given ones’ who served in the temple and often did menial tasks yet their lives were given over to service in the temple under the hand of the Lěwites.

He gave of Himself in order to give to us that which He promised to Aḇraham and in turn we too are enabled by His favour through the Blood of Messiah to ‘give’ ourselves totally over to Him as a daily living sacrifice serving Him with our all, in complete set-apartness.

Mattithyahu/Matthew 5:5 “Blessed are the meek, because they shall inherit the earth.

From this great promise of inheritance we can clearly see that we can be confident in our hope and expectation of what we shall inherit despite the intensity of pressure that may increase over our lives. This too further expels any notion of a falsely taught idea of a rapture of the set-apart ones, for clearly we are here to stay as we faithfully walk in righteousness!

Mishlĕ/Proverbs 2:20-22 “So walk in the way of goodness, and guard the paths of righteousness. 21 For the straight shall dwell in the earth, and the perfect be left in it; 22 but the wrong shall be cut off from the earth, and the treacherous ones plucked out of it.

The above are great promises and assurances that were given to Yisra’ĕl who were enslaved and these promises are still His sure promises for us today! By His Mighty Right Hand He redeems us and delivers us and brings us out of darkness, to be unto Him a people called by His Name in order to inherit the promises of His Covenants given to Aḇraham, Yitsḥaq and Ya’aqoḇ which has been renewed, refreshed, restored and sealed in the Blood of יהושע.

At the end of verse 8, after declaring the sure “Shall” statements,  the statement… “I AM יהוה” is enough to prove that what has been said will be done, for the All-sufficient One has spoken!

In Yeḥezqěl/Ezekiel 36:22-31 we are able to see the similar language of the sure Promises of the ‘I AM’ declaring to Yisra’ĕlI SHALL!

It is all about His Name and for His great Name’s sake!

Yeḥezqěl/Ezekiel 36:22-24 Therefore say to the house of Yisra’ĕl, ‘Thus said the Master יהוה, “I do not do this for your sake, O house of Yisra’ĕl, but for My set-apart Name’s sake, which you have profaned among the gentiles wherever you went. 23 And I shall set apart My great Name, which has been profaned among the gentiles, which you have profaned in their midst. And the gentiles shall know that I am יהוה,” declares the Master יהוה, “when I am set-apart in you before their eyes. 24 “And I shall take you from among the gentiles, and I shall gather you out of all lands, and I shall bring you into your own land.

For the sake of His Name!!!

It always begins with His Name – when you do not get that right – the promises are assured by faith in Him!

When His Name is recognised and realised then we begin to see what He ‘shall’ do (24-31):

Yeḥezqěl/Ezekiel 36:24-31 And I shall take you from among the nations, and I shall gather you out of all lands, and I shall bring you into your own land. 25 “And I shall sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean – from all your filthiness and from all your idols I cleanse you. 26 “And I shall give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you. And I shall take the heart of stone out of your flesh, and I shall give you a heart of flesh, 27 and put My Spirit within you. And I shall cause you to walk in My laws and guard My right-rulings and shall do them. 28 “And you shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers. And you shall be My people, and I shall be your Elohim. 29 “And I shall save you from all your uncleannesses. And I shall call for the grain and increase it, and I shall bring no scarcity of food upon you. 30 “And I shall increase the fruit of your trees and the increase of your fields, so that you need never again bear the reproach of scarcity of food among the gentiles. 31 “And you shall remember your evil ways and your deeds that were not good. And you shall loathe yourselves in your own eyes, for your crookednesses and your abominations.

I Shall:

1 - … TAKE YOU FROM AMOUNG THE NATIONS

2 - … GATHER YOU FROM THE LANDS

3 - … BRING YOU IN TO YOUR OWN LAND

4 - … CLEANSE YOU FROM YOUR FILTH AND IDOLATRY

5 - … GIVE YOU A NEW HEART AND SPIRIT – PUT MY SPIRIT WITHIN YOU! – He puts His breath in us – no shortness of breath when we receive His breath – His Word in us!

6 - … TAKE THE HEART OF STONE OOUT OF YOUR FLESH

7 - … GIVE YOU A HEART OF FLESH AND PUT MY SPIRIT IN YOU

8 - … CAUSE YOU TO WALK IN OBEDIENCE

9 - … BE YOUR ELOHIM

10 - … SAVE YOU FROM UNCLEANNESS

11 - … CALL FOR PROVISION – there will be no lack

12 - … INCREASE YOUR FRUIT

These sure ‘I SHALL’ statements begin with knowing who He is – He is the I AM – the One who causes to be and His Name is יהוה. These are not only future promises to be fully met but we can know and recognise in every situation we find ourselves IN, on a personal level, that when we fully acknowledge who He is, then the Great I AM is able to heal, restore, gather, rescue and redeem us and cause us to walk faithfully – if we will but HEAR, GUARD and DO His Word – that is that we are to listen attentively and act accordingly!!! The response to His voice or lack thereof reveals how attentive we are to His Word and whether we have come to the starting point of who He is and believe it!

Our assurance of the right response to attentive listening is this:

We shall:

1 – Walk in His laws and guard His right-rulings – and DO THEM – doers and not just hearers!

2 – Dwell in the Promised Land

3 – Be His people

4 – Remember our evil ways and deeds that were not good!

5 – Loath ourselves in our own eyes for our abominable and crooked ways!

Too many do not recognise their wickedness and abominable practices as being ‘that bad’, so to speak, as they excuse it away through ignorance! We must loath and hate all the evil we have done so as to not be tempted to fall back into those ignorant wicked ways. It is all about His Name!!!

A name not only determines one’s reputation but also gives clear identity and standing. For instance, we here in South Africa are known as South Africans, and as we would travel we would be identifiable by our nationality through our ways and our speech etc. Well the Name of יהוה is for one, a strong tower, as it says in Scripture but it carries so much more, and the more we learn about our Creator the more we recognise and realise just how awesome and wonderful His Name is and by us carrying that Name, just how important and privileged we are.

In Berěshith/Genesis 4:26 we see the first mention of the people beginning to call upon the Name of יהוה, just after Enosh was born and knowing that Enosh means ‘mortal’, it stands to reason that ‘mortal’ man began to call upon the Name of יהוה. What is so important about His Name, besides that it is His Name??? Firstly we see that somewhere along the line, this ‘calling upon His Name’ was seemingly lost during the 400 years that the descendants of Aḇraham were in Mitsrayim; and when יהוה called them out of Mitsrayim He told Mosheh who He was and the Name that His people were to call Him. When Mosheh asked what he should say when Yisra’ĕl asked him who had sent him, the Almighty said, ‘I AM that which I AM’, and was told to tell them that The I AM had sent Him. He was then further instructed to tell them that ‘יהוה Elohim of your fathers, of Aḇraham, Yitsḥaq and Yaʽaqoḇ had sent him and that that would be His Name of remembrance to all generations. What a powerful moment that was as יהוה was indeed restoring His powerful Name among His chosen and called out ones! This, I believe is a foreshadow, if you will, of what He is doing once again – for He is restoring His Name! What we must understand is that for us to declare His Name is also our acknowledgement of who He is. The Hebrew for I Am that which I AM is - אהיה אשר אהיה - ʾĕh˗yĕ(h)  ʾªšěr  ʾĕh˗yĕ(h) literally means, “I exist or I cause to be”.

I AM the One who causes to be. I AM the One who brings into being. I AM the life-giver, the giver of all existence.

I AM the ever living self-consistent and unchangeable One.

And from this we get the Name, given By Him, for us to call upon as יהוה (Yahweh) which literally means:

He is the One who causes me to be.

This is very powerful, for every time you call on the Name of  יהוה, you are declaring who it is that causes you to be, you are declaring from your lips the One who gives you life, who made you, who gives you existence! And we are to declare His Name, giving praise to the ‘I AM’! It is through the Aaronic blessing that His Name is put upon us and that we can live and walk a life that carries His Name – but what happens when His Name is profaned?

As we look a little closer at Yeḥezqĕl/Ezekiel 36:16-38, which I encourage you to read at this point, we are able to see the predominant theme of this passage being one of restoration and the major theme here in Yeḥezqĕl/Ezekiel 36:16-38 is יהוה's vindication of His Name. The most defiling thing for Yeḥezqĕl was pagan worship, and it is from this that Yisra’ĕl would be cleansed. As we look at this chapter in Yeḥezqĕl/Ezekiel we cannot help but notice the repetition of all that יהוה does in restoring Yisra’ĕl, is to do with restoring the Truth about His Name!

Yisra’ĕl was a set-apart nation (In Shemoth/Exodus 19:6 יהוה declared this); they were given a Set-Apart Promised Land, made so by the very presence of Elohim who had a set-apart Name. Yet they failed to acknowledge His Name and bring esteem and honour to His Name – which was in direct contrast to Shemoth/Exodus 20:7 – the 4th commandment – “You shall not bring the Name of יהוה your Elohim to nought” – and failing to bring esteem and honour to His Name is also in direct contrast to the instructions of how יהושע  Messiah taught us to pray in: Mattithyahu/Matthew 6:9: “This, then, is the way you should pray: ‘Our Father who is in the heavens, let Your Name be set-apart.

What Yisra’ĕl did here in Yeḥezqĕl/Ezekiel 36:16-38 was tarnish the Name of יהוה, how? By engaging in the pagan practices of the other nations, which they were forbidden to do, and as a result they chose to walk their own ways and do their own deeds as opposed to walking in obedience to the Torah. So by this they defiled the land.

Defilement comes when you go off and walk in your own ways and do your own thing and do not follow the Torah of יהוה and walk in יהושע Messiah.

What we must always realise is that any other way than His Way in unclean to Him. Any other path other than His way is filthy to Him – it is like a woman during her monthly period. This may be an often hard and disgusting picture I know, but this is just how serious this defilement is!

Yisra’ĕl defiled the land – now to defile something is to make it unclean or rather render or declare something unclean, and when something was declared unclean it was considered to be unfit for any set-apart purposes. We are told in Wayyiqra/Leviticus 10:10 that we are to make a distinction between the set-apart and the profane, between the clean and the unclean. Sadly what we see today is a total mix between clean and unclean that it gets almost impossible for many to be able to make a distinction between the set-apart and the profane and as a result they are bringing defilement to wherever they are at and therefore are ultimately profaning the Name of יהוה.

So how did Yisra’ĕl defile the land?

1 – Murder – they shed blood – how? By sacrificing their children, offering them up to the Baḇelonian sun-god Molech in fertility rituals at the designated equinox and solstice feasts.

2 – Idolatry – offering their babies was not just murder but idolatry in worship unto a fabricated deity of the Baḇelonians.

It was because of this that יהוה scattered them away among the nations, and when they were scattered they continued in their sin, profaning His Name, to which one day they would mourn for their rebellion.

Sin always has a way of holding out the promise of satisfaction without ever achieving it. It may look good to do what they others are doing, but if it is not according to the Torah of יהוה, it will be destructive.

יהוה scattered them and so judged them according to their ways and deeds  - and so we see in this illustration and example of a women in her monthly cycle that was separated from the congregation for being unclean and anyone who would touch her would become unclean and not allowed to come into the congregation, so too due to her uncleanness, Yisra’ĕl had to be separated from the Set-Apart Land.

What is sad is that instead of being a light to the nations they had profaned His Name to the nations and in effect brought the Name of יהוה to nought as they continued to call upon false pagan deities and following the ways of the nations and their vain traditions.

What does it mean to profane? The word profane means to treat something sacred with abuse, irreverence or contempt. The Hebrew word is חלל - ḥālal (chalal – with a ch.. sound as in loch) and means to bore or pierce through or kill or wound or defile. What is very interesting to me is that the word for praise in Hebrew is הלל – halal (with a soft sound as in ha).

These two words differ with a slight difference is the stroke of the pen by means of a little tiny gap! In Praise the letter ה (hey) is used and in profane the letter ח (ḥet) is used. This may sound a little pedantic to some of you, but for me it makes me realise just how fine line it is between pure worship and profanity! Remember Naḏaḇ and Aḇihu, the sons of Aharon who offered profane fire unto יהוה – they offered a false worship and got zapped!

Let me tell you why I find this very interesting in the closeness of these words – we see in the world today that there are many who claim to be born again believers of the Almighty yet in their worship they are offering profane worship and they cannot distinguish between the set-apart and the profane! The ‘church’ today is profaning the Name of יהוה and have not only brought His Name to nought but have profaned it by treating it with abuse, irreverence and contempt!

SEE ATTACHED DIAGRAM ON PRAISE VERSUS PROFANE BELOW:

praise vs profane

In His wrath יהוה dispersed Yisra’ĕl and in a demonstration of His amazing grace He will vindicate His Name. יהוה had compassion upon His Name – that is He knows that His Name declares who He is – He is the One who causes to be – He caused man to be and so in His compassion for His Name, and what it means, He redeems His Covenant people!!!

It is all about His Name – it is all about worship. In Yo’ĕl/Joel we are told that ‘all who call upon the Name of יהוה will be saved’!!! That is ‘all’ not some or a select few, but ALL. In other words, all who recognise that He is the One who gives life and causes us to be shall be saved. It is a recognition and acknowledgement of who made you, who created you to be and to whom you give your worship. Yes we know that no one comes to יהושע except if the Father draws him, so yes it is He who calls, but all who actually acknowledge the call and call upon His Name declaring Him as the “I AM” and hear his Word and guard to do it, will be delivered/saved! This is where the fine line of profanity comes in – we are told to praise His Name, not profane it. We profane it when we misrepresent Him by following our own ways and deeds or rather the ways of the nations.

Profane worship is happening as we speak in the world today – think of all the Baḇelonian feasts of sun-worship practiced by so many ignorant people today. Christmas is actually rooted in child sacrifice fertility rituals and Easter was where infants again were offered up on the altar of Tammuz and Semiramis as fertility rituals. Child sacrifice through murder and idolatry in fire offerings unto Molech are still very much being rehearsed as it were today in the form of profane worship unto the Almighty.

For more on why we should not keep these feast that are rooted in wickedness, please see the article:

These profanities and defilements are what caused יהוה to scatter His people, but yet for the sake of His Name and His compassion for His Name, He promises to take, gather and bring His people back to the Set-Apart Land!

When He says that He will take you from among the nations – we must understand that at Yeḥezqěl’s time Yisra’ĕl had not been fully scattered totally into all the earth and so could not yet be gathered from all nations, yet in the years that have passed since then, the dispersion has literally been fulfilled, and so here this taking back, gathering and returning to the Land is referring to what is still to come, and these events will be fully realised when the scattered members of the house of Yisra’ĕl are taken out of the nations. I believe that this process has begun in a great way – for many are being taken from the nations – that is to “come out of Baḇelon” if you will – as many are coming out by the hand of יהוה , and He is beginning to gather together His own out of the nations, and He alone will bring us back to the Land – this process has begun as many are calling upon His Name in acknowledgement of who He is, and may we realise afresh that it is not about us or for our sake, but rather for His Name’s sake!

He is calling people to be set-apart and He is gathering His Bride and when He comes for us He will take us to the Promised Land – we know that there will be attempts at a false orchestrated gathering in order to usher in the false Messiah, and there will also be false ‘gatherings’ of groups of people in an attempt at fulfilling this – may I remind you what is written here in this passage – He will gather His people – not any man or any organisation – He will gather; yet we must be watchful as children of light that we may walk steadfast in His commands able to discern the set-apart from the profane!

These events spoken of here are of a national cleansing, that when He gathers His Bride He will cleanse Her and then put a new heart and a new spirit within and he will cause us to walk in all His ways, to do them and once again dwell in the Land and be His people. This change is explained in a 4-fold way:

1 – Negatively – in that there is a removal – a removal of the old – praise Him for that!!!

2 – Positively – A renewal – a new heart and a new spirit – causing us to live a life of total obedience!

3 – Causatively – the Torah is written upon the heart causing us to live obediently as we are led by and walk according to His Spirit!

4 – Practically – by its manifestation - daily walking in His statutes and keeping His judgements!

Although we individually go through a similar process when we accept יהושע Messiah as our Saviour and are immersed in His set-apart name, we die to self and are raised anew in Him, what we see being referred to here in this passage is a national redemption which has not yet occurred. What we have for now is a seal, a deposit of what is to come, and even the deposit we have now is sufficient for us to walk accordingly! Just as the faith of a mustard seed is sufficient for us to say to a mountain be removed, do to is this wonderful deposit that we have in Him, sufficient for us to walk in total obedience right here right now!

We must understand the wonder of His Name – the wonder of His compassion for His Name – that while we were yet sinners, He died for us – for His Name’s sake – His Name is upon us and He will never leave us nor forsake us for His Name’s sake!

We see the term ‘I shall’ used 18 times in this short section of Yeḥezqĕl/Ezekiel 36:16-38 and the result of this that we are able to see, is that Yisra’ĕl will have:

1 – Permanent occupation of the Land

2 – Covenant relationship with יהוה

3 – Protection against future lapsing into idolatry and immorality

4 – Abundant supply of food and all needs

At this point יהוה makes it very clear that He is doing and will do, all of this for the sake of His set-apart Name and so Yisra’ĕl should therefore blush and be ashamed! I wonder just how many of us have actually blushed and been ashamed of our wickedness, in our defilement, in our profane worship? I must admit the more I realise and recognise just how profane and defiled my attempt at worship was, the more I was ashamed and yes even blush in embarrassment before Him for following the way of the nations – I repented for being a ‘good Christian’!

What I love about this passage is the promises He gives – the sure Promises of The Land that will become desolate will become like Eḏen, and the wasted, destroyed and deserted cities will become walled and inhabited.

The Nations that are left – that 1/3 that makes it through the Tribulation will know that He is יהוה – they will know that He is the One who causes to be, the One who gives existence – there is no other! And so, just as Yerushalayim is filled with people at the appointed times, so shall all the wasted cities be filled with men – and all will know that He is יהוה.

I may have repeated myself, but the essence of this message is simply this – it is all about His Name!

By the Aaronic blessing found in Bemiḏbar/Numbers 6:24-26 we see that this is how the children of Yisra’ĕl are blessed and it is how we shall put His Name on the children of Yisra’ĕl, for then He shall indeed Himself bless us.

As we, His children, have His Set-Apart Name upon us, may we not be found to be defiling the place He has given us and may we not be found to be profaning His Name among the nations, but rather shining His Truth and being a light to the nations, so that they may all know that He is the One who gives existence, for He is יהוה. It is All about His Name!

As we carry His Name may we truly understand the joy of bearing the Name that saves and continue to put our trust in יהוה to do that which we are incapable of doing ourselves and that is to cleanse us from sin, which is lawlessness and provide for us the power by His Spirit to live set-apart lives for His Name’s sake!

We have all heard the call to come out and be separate – may we truly live it as we worship and praise His Name being a light to many.  This is not a call to come out and hide, but a call to come out and be separate and SHINE!!!

Perhaps you have found at times that you have crossed that fine line or rather closed that tiny gap that exists between praise and profanity – hear these words of the One who give us our existence today – and may we serve Him with our all in Spirit and in Truth and let profanity or defilement never be found among us again. We give Him praise that by the Blood of יהושע we be partakers of the covenants of Promise as the One who causes us to be forever will cause us to be with Him – for it is all about His Name! Oh How I love Your Name, יהוה, You Are the All Existent One who causes me to be – can you declare this too!

BACK TO SHEMOTH/EXODUS 6:

In discovering and recognising who יהוה is, we are to have a response in line with what His Word tells us to do through careful hearing… check out the wrong response in Shemoth/Exodus 6:9:

Verse 9 – The response of Yisra’ĕl:

Mosheh speaks the sure and promised message of יהוה only to find resistance and unbelief! Two aspects in this verse we can learn a great deal from:

1 – They did not listen – Listening is still a major problem today! The word used here for listen is שָׁמַע shama – Strong’s H8085 which carries the meaning not just simply to hear, but rather to ‘listen with attention, comprehend and discern, give heed to what is being spoken’.

Understanding our need to be a people who are listening attentively and giving heed to His Word in a time when most are not let us recognise that this is certainly the time to now be a hearing and discerning and obeying people!

How often when you are facing life’s toughest tests and under great pressure to perform in the world’s system through your workplace do you neglect to believe the sure promises of the I AM? Often when people get so ‘bogged down’ with work related pressures they tend to turn their ear away from hearing the Truth and as a result lose heart and fall into the trap of insecurity unable to listen attentively to the Word of Life! The result of ‘not listening’ is:

2 – Shortness of spirit – this is shortness of “breath” as the word used hear for spirit is - רוּחַ rua Strong’s H7307and means ‘breath, wind or spirit’ – and here due to a lack of the ‘breath of Elohim’ they were tight chested through pressure and panic, stress and doubt. Often when life’s troubles get you down it can feel like you cannot breathe properly with the feeling of being ‘choked’ of your breath.

Mattithyahu/Matthew 13:22 “And that sown among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the worry of this age and the deceit of riches choke the word, and it becomes fruitless.

The worries of this age and the deceit of riches are the two main ingredients that choke out the Word and leave you ‘breathless’ and unable to bear the proper fruit of righteousness!

The Greek word translated as ‘choke’ is συμπνίγω sumpnigō – Strong’s G4846 which means, to choke, pressed against, strangle completely – that is literally to drown and figuratively to crowd. Have you ever felt like you are drowning in a sea of doubt and fear, or being crowded out by external pressures that are pressing hard against you? Well this is what worries, riches and pleasure of life will do to you if you are not careful in keeping the soil of your heart free from such thorns, and are not meditating day and night on the Truth, and not shining the light with confidence!

The Greek word for ‘worry’ is μεριμνάω merimnaō – Strong’s G3309 which means, to be anxious, care for, worry and comes from the root μέριμνα merimna – Strong’s G3308 which means, cares, worries, anxieties. This Greek word can also render the understanding of, being pulled in different directions – have you ever felt like you are being pulled in so many directions that you do not know which way to turn?

The sad reality is that most of us allow anxieties to consume us and when this does, then the very Word that has been deposited gets choked out – now think about this choking - it is not a nice experience!!! Worries choke out the good deposit. We are to be on guard and watch, and be careful for this not to happen! As we consider the picture of one being pulled in different directions by so many worries and anxieties or cares of this world we realise that in order to be steadfast and firm and not be pulled in any conflicting direction that deflects one from a walk of set-apartness in complete faith, we need to have a firm grip on the truth.

A firm grip on the Truth will assure that one is not pulled in any type of tug-of-war match with fleshly lusts that wrestle against the life we have in the Master! When we consider these words of our Master that clearly teaches us not to worry at all, we must take note of the clear instructions that are given in this regard, as we take note that the things that are worried about are the things that the nations seek after! We are told to seek first the reign of Elohim and His righteousness and then all of the daily needs will be added to us!

Yisra’ĕl grew short of breath as a result of hard slavery and were then unable to hear and build their faith in the great I AM. We must learn from this to always be attentive to the Word and keep our hearts free of thorns and not allow unwanted growth of worries and the deceit of wealth to cause us to lose breath.

Words that we would do well to continually remember, are:

Yeshayahu/Isaiah 35:4-10 “Say to those with anxious heart, “Be strong, do not fear! See, your Elohim comes with vengeance, with the recompense of Elohim. He is coming to save you.” 5 Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf be opened. 6 Then the lame shall leap like a deer, and the tongue of the dumb sing, because waters shall burst forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert. 7 And the parched ground shall become a pool, and the thirsty land springs of water – in the home for jackals, where each lay, grass with reeds and rushes. 8 And there shall be a highway, and a way, and it shall be called “The Way of Set-apartness.” The unclean does not pass over it, but it is for those who walk the way, and no fools wander on it. 9 No lion is there, nor any ravenous beast go up on it, it is not found there. But the redeemed shall walk there. 10 And the ransomed of יהוה shall return and enter Tsiyon with singing, with everlasting joy on their heads. They shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

Yisra’ĕl, back then, did not listen and as a result they lost their breath under the hardship of slavery in Mitsrayim – let us not make the same mistake today as we open our ears to attentively hear His Sure Word and direction for our lives.

We are to let His everlasting Word cause us to put to death the fleshly so that our spirit can be renewed and are able to breathe deeply!

Ma’asei/Acts 3:19 “Repent therefore and turn back, for the blotting out of your sins, in order that times of refreshing might come from the presence of the Master

The Greek word for ‘refreshing’ is ἀνάψυξις  anapsuxis Strong’s G403 and means, ‘recovery of breath, refresh’ and we see that when we repent and turn back to The Master we may receive a recovery of breath – His Word giving us our very life that we may live and breathe and praise His Name – for everything that has breath praise יהוה!

It takes hearing obediently to clearly guard to do what His instructions tell us to and be filled with His Spirit/Breath/Word that He puts in those who turn back to Him and in Ḥaḇaqquq 3 we see the prophet plead with יהוה to ‘remember compassion’ in His wrath – in other words – remember those who return and are recovered by His Breath through the Fear of Elohim – remember the righteous who do His will and refresh His faithful remnant in the midst of these dark and perilous times!!!

In Yeshayahu/Isaiah 40:1 we see the term - “נַחֲמוּ נַחֲמוּ עַמִּי” – “naḥamu,naḥamu, ami” – “comfort, comfort, My people…” The repetition of the word used for ‘comfort’ is for emphasis and this word is from the root word נָחַם naḥam – Strong’s H5162 which means, to comfort, console, to be comforted and also can express the meaning, to be sorry, to be moved, have compassion, suffer grief, repent. The original root often seems to reflect the idea of ‘breathing deeply’; hence the physical display of one’s feelings, usually of sorrow, compassion or comfort.  It can therefore mean to breathe deeply with sorrow for your sin, or to breathe deeply as you comfort and console someone.

In Scripture we see that the majority of the times that נָחַם naḥam is used and translated as ‘repent’ actually refers to Elohim’s repentance and not man’s. Man’s repentance is most frequently indicated by the word שׁוּב shuḇ – Strong’s H7725 which means, to turn back, return, repent, recover, meaning to turn away from sin and turn back to Elohim and follow in His ways.

The term ‘naḥamu’ which is a derivative of נָחַם naḥam can give the understanding of ‘to cause to breathe again’ – in other words it is יהוה Himself that would bring the ‘recovery of breath’, and this is His comforting words to His people – and in a sense could render the encouragement of knowing that Elohim Himself is declaring to a people in exile,

I am bringing you a recovery of breath”. This recovery of breath that was surely needed is sufficient for His people to get strengthened and prepare the way for His soon return!

We are to be a people who are strengthened to lift up our voice and not be afraid, as we proclaim the True Shepherd and Saviour of our souls – The Master יהוה of Hosts!

Verses 14-22

Genealogies of 3 tribes only!!! Where are the other 9? It is an interesting passage that puts both Mosheh and Aharon into perspective as to their line of descent, as many possibly would have even doubted whether Mosheh was one of them, as the last time they had seen Mosheh 40 years before was as a Mitsrian official, and if people can find fault with their leadership then they often resort to the notion that they don’t have to take responsibility. Mosheh shows that he does in fact have the right to speak by listing where he is from and he lists himself not as first but as coming from the 3rd born Lĕwi showing respect to the 2 born before – Re’uḇĕn and Shim‘on. Re’uḇĕn having lost his status here we see Lĕwi taking a stand and standing in the gap for all. The names listed here carry great insight for us and sufficient for us to speak what we need to know in order to see the bringing about of the deliverance of Yisra’ĕl in our day:

Re’uḇĕn  - רְאוּבֵן  - Strong’s H7205 – ‘behold a son

  • Mosheh - משֶׁה  - Strong’s H4872 – ‘drawn
  • Yitshar - יִצְהָר  - Strong’s H3324 – ‘shining oil

Behold a Son, who is dedicated and distinguished, and has come and surrounded His Vineyard by a wall, repairing the breach and making it heard that in the Day of Ěl, by His Right Hand, He will come to a united people with whom He will establish the tawny who have desired to be joined to Him while in exile – where their garments will be made white and make His Name renowned by becoming an exalted people in whom Yahweh is esteemed, bearing His Light to draw out people using the shining oil of His glad Word that uncovers their heads of shame, associating their strength from El, as the bitter and sick come yielding before Him and find the protection of Yahweh.

Verse 23 Aharon - אַהֲרוֹן (the light bringer/bearer) took Elisheḇa - אֱלִישֶׁבַע (My Ěl has sworn an oath) as wife and the fruit thereof was:

Naḏaḇ - נָדָב (generous, willing), Aḇihu - אֲבִיהוּא  (he is my father), Elʽazar  - אֶלְעָזָר  (El has helped), and Ithamar - אִיתָמָר  (coast of palms)

This is Mosheh and Aharon! This account of names clearly puts a vital emphasis on who Mosheh and Aharon were. Verse 30 Mosheh once again says that he is of uncircumcised lips so why would Pharaoh listen to him? It was like he was saying, “Ok, I now know my roots and where I am from but what will that matter to Pharaoh?”

…. Next chapter…

CHAPTER 7

Mosheh had no more excuses – the I AM had called him and made him who he was and יהוה tells Mosheh that He has made him a mighty one to Pharaoh and Aharon would be his prophet – his mouthpiece. The term used here in reference to Mosheh being referred to as an elohim to Pharaoh does not make Mosheh “Elohim” but rather is emphasises that Mosheh not only represents יהוה, but that he also speaks under the authority of יהוה!

All Mosheh had to do was speak all that יהוה commanded him too. We would do well to do just that – speak and do what יהוה has commanded us to. His commands are to be upon our lips – in our hearts and in our mouths – to do it!

Verse 3-4 – I will harden hearts! When we are a witness and ambassador of Messiah we must realise before we even begin to reach out to those in bondage that it will not be easy.  יהוה made it clear upfront to Mosheh that Pharaoh would be hardened – so that the signs and wonders would be increased.

The Hebrew word translated as ‘harden’ comes from the primitive root קָשָׁה  qashah – Strong’s H7185 which means, to be hard, severe or fierce, stiffened’, and in the original sense of the primitive root word קוּשׁ  qosh – Strong’s H6983 meaning, to lay bait, ensnare, we see that יהוה was making it very clear to Mosheh that He was going to use Pharaoh as bait, and ensnare him in his own hardness and wickedness, in order that all shall know who יהוה is.

Verse 5 – All the Mitsrites shall know that I AM יהוה! This is a wonderful picture of what will one day occur – the whole world will know that the I AM is יהוה – every knee will bow and every tongue will confess – even those who had stubbornly hardened their hearts and closed their ears.

Yeshayahu/Isaiah 45:23 “I have sworn by Myself, a word has gone out of My mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, so that to Me every knee shall bow, every tongue swear.

Romiyim/Romans 14:11 “For it has been written, “As I live, says יהוה, every knee shall bow to Me, and every tongue shall confess to Elohim.

Pilipiyim/Philippians 2:10 “that at the Name of יהושע every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth

Verse 6 – Just do what He has commanded – that is what we are all required to do as our true obedience reveals our perfect love for Elohim. Here we clearly see by the example of Mosheh and Aharon, how we too must simply submit to and obey the clear instruction of Elohim, as we HEAR – GUARD and DO His Word without compromise!

Tehillah/Psalm 119:4 “You have commanded us to guard Your orders diligently.

Yoḥanan/John 15:10 “If you guard My commands, you shall stay in My love, even as I have guarded My Father’s commands and stay in His love.

Yoḥanan Aleph/1 John 5:3 “For this is the love for Elohim, that we guard His commands, and His commands are not heavy

Yoḥanan Bet/2 John 1:6 “And this is the love, that we walk according to His commands. This is the command, that as you have heard from the beginning, you should walk in it.

With Mosheh and Aharon doing as יהוה commanded them, we need to also learn true obedience. Mosheh, meaning ‘drawn out’ and Aharon, meaning ‘light bringer’, we need to realise the responsibility we have in guarding the commands of Elohim – the Light Bringer, יהושע Messiah, who has drawn us out of the miry clay and cleansed us from all defilement and disobedience!

THE SIGNS AND PLAGUES

Verse 8-12The Rod verses rods – the first sign that יהוה told Mosheh to show Pharaoh, was that of Aharon’s rod turning into a serpent, when Pharaoh would ask them to show a miracle for themselves. The world loves a show and wants to forever see signs and wonders. Pharaoh’s magicians thought they were clever and did the same by turning their rods into serpents – yet Aharon’s rod swallowed up all theirs!!!

The term for ‘rod’ used here is מַטָּה mattah – Strong’s H4294 meaning, a staff, rod, branch, a tribe, a branch of a vine which comes from the primitive root נָטָה natah – Strong’s H5186 meaning, to stretch out, spread out, extend, incline.

This was a prophetic sign that the Rod of יהוה - that is His Kingdom rule and reign - would indeed come down and swallow up the worlds.

Pharaoh would ask them for a sign of their authority – “With what authority do you tell me to let your people go?

יהושע said that the generation that would seek signs and wonders were wicked and adulterous.

Mattithyahu/Matthew 12:39 “But He answering, said to them, “A wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign shall be given to it except the sign of the prophet Yonah.

What is interesting to note of is that when Mosheh did this “sign of the rod” before the leaders of Yisra’ĕl, the rod became a נָחָשׁ naḥashStrong’s H5175, which is a serpent or snake, and is the same word that is used in the Garden of Een, in reference to Satan, and this sign would show Yisra’ĕl that the promise to crush his head was still remembered!

Here in this account of the rod turning into a ‘serpent’ before Pharaoh, we take note that the word used for ‘serpent’ here is תַּנִּין tanniyn – Strong’s H8577 meaning, serpent, dragon, sea monster.

We need to recognise that the Mitsrians worshipped the crocodile, and one of their hieroglyphic letters was pictured as a crocodile; and the word for ‘king’ in their ancient hieroglyphics comprised of a hawk and 2 crocodiles; and so the position of Pharaoh was linked to that of a crocodile and one of their mighty ones was a crocodile named ‘Sobek’ who they believed brought the Nile about by its sweat, and was considered by the Mitsrians to be a protector of the dead royal line. So by this sign before Pharaoh we see clearly that יהוה was attacking Pharaoh’s position, title, his belief of afterlife and his strength.

When Pharaoh’s men did the same sign of turning their rods into serpents he was trying to make a statement that he was better by basically saying, “look how many crocodiles I have!” In Yeḥezqěl/Ezekiel 29: 3 Pharaoh is referred to as the great monster which is also the Hebrew word -תַּנִּין tannin – and so he claims to be above all mighty ones, which is a clear picture of the anti-Messiah.

Speak, and you shall say, ‘Thus said the Master יהוה, “See, I am against you, O Pharaoh sovereign of Mitsrayim, O great monster who lies in the midst of his rivers, who has said, ‘My River is my own, and I, I have made it for myself.

The false Messiah will do his best to keep many trapped ‘in Mitsrayim’, so to speak, through many counterfeited signs, yet will eventually be swallowed up by the Truth!

יהוה had clearly shown His Authority, as being the Only True Authority in all Creation that will destroy all self-assumed authorities of man-made systems of worship! This sign also firmly established the clear statement that יהוה is the Elohim of all – He is the One from which all Authority comes – He is the Head and beginning, and so Pharaoh and his magicians had no match against the True Authority, with their pitiful counterfeits:

In the Beginning Elohim…!

Just as we see how יהוה attacked the authority of Pharaoh straight up, we further see in all the plagues that followed, a direct attack on all the false mighty ones that Mitsrian worshipped and relied upon for their health, wealth and daily living:

PLAGUE 1 – BLOOD 7:14-25

Mosheh was to go and meet with Pharaoh and stand at the river bank and take the rod that was in his hand – that same rod of Aharon which had turned into a serpent and swallowed up all Pharaoh’s serpents – showing that it is the same ‘ROD’ (Authority) that would do what was about to happen – and that was to turn the river Nile turned to blood.

This was a direct attack on ‘Hapi their mighty one of the river, also referred to as the father of mighty ones. This mighty one was said to have provided water to Mitsrayim for the preservation of life. He was depicted in their carvings as a man with breasts – breasts representing provision and nourishment and was a direct counterfeit to El Shaddai!!!

Hapi was believed to be responsible for watering the meadows and bringing the dew and brought fertile flooding by the rising of the Nile. As a fertility deity, he was associated with Osiris.

Mitsrians considered the Nile as the link from this life to the next and was considered the blood of Osiris. The priests of Mitsrayim loathed blood, yet they cruelly sported with the blood of the captive Yisra’ĕlites, whose children they caused to be cast into the Nile. The Egyptians worshipped the river but when its waters turned to blood they loathed and detested it. This plague brought confusion and shame regarding their great might one Hapi who was defamed by the plague sent by יהוה. Other deities connected with the Nile were Amon and Khnum who were the guardians of the Nile. The Nile controlled their economy and represented the life of Mitsrayim.

יהוה was destroying that which Mitsrayim had put all their hope and trust in and destroyed the ‘source/centre’ of their economic structure, and one just has to stop and think for a moment just how detestable this plague had become in the eyes of Mitsrayim. This ‘source’ of life had now become blood and killed all the fish! ‘Hapi was seen as the creator of fish and crops as the Nile supplied life and water for both. Our modern word ‘happiness’ comes from this false mighty one and as we know that Mitsrayim in Scripture represents for us in these lasts days as the ‘church’ in the world, יהוה will cause its bankruptcy to be revealed through His judgements and leave so many bewildered!

Many of the Mitsrians would have been confused as their life source was defeated and all they could smell was the stench of dead fish for miles!!!

Interlude – Before carrying on our inspection of each plague it is worth noting at this point the following:

יהוה had given Mosheh 3 signs to show the leaders of Yisra’ĕl:

1 – The Rod in to a snake – witness of a stripping of man-made authority and crushing Satan

2 – The sign of the leprous hand – Healing hand of יהוה – through His outstretched arm – as well as the two comings of Messiah! Mosheh was instructed to put his hand in his bosom and bring it out and it was leprous and then put it back and bring it out again – and it was clean. The sign of the leprous hand shown only to Yisra’ĕl was to show them that Elohim could heal any disease and that He would heal them, as He Himself would come down and take on the flesh nature and in Messiah, take on our sins and in his resurrection He will be seated on high having defeated death and when He comes again He comes as a Righteous and King to take up His Bride.

3 – The sign of water to blood – witness of a death of a pagan deity

Mosheh did all these before the elders of Yisra’ĕl, but only did 2 of them before Pharaoh and Mitsrayim. To Yisra’ĕl these were signs of confirmation and trust in their Redeemer and now two Pharaoh they were signs of just who was the Elohim of Hosts!

In verse 16 we see the clear instruction given to Mosheh – and that was to tell Pharaoh that the Elohim of the Hebrews had sent him!!! Elohim of the Hebrews – יהוה is the Elohim of those who have crossed over!

The word used for ‘crossed over’ in Hebrew is the root verb עָבַר aḇar – Strong’s H5674 which means, to pass over, pass through, cross over and a derivative of his name is the word - עִבְרִי Iḇri – Strong’s H5680 which in English is ‘Hebrew’ and means, the one from beyond, the one who crossed over. Aḇram was the first person to be called a Hebrew (Berěshith/Genesis 14:13) and we recognise this by his ‘crossing over’ the Euphrates River, when leaving his father’s house and going into the Promised Land at the call and instruction of Elohim!

Here in verse 16 we also see how the Pharaoh had not listened and when it says that ‘until now you have not listened’ we can see a clear shadow picture of how many who continue to turn their ear from hearing the Torah will most likely continue to do so until the end - when the wrath of יהוה is poured out and at that time they will even begin to blaspheme Him!

Verse 17-18 – I will strike the waters! This is a clear picture of how יהוה will destroy the wormwood teachings and dogmas of man by His righteous right rulings that are contained in His Torah, and those caught in the deception will die as pictured through the fish that will die! There will come a time, and I submit that it is already here, where the terrible ‘mixed waters’ of religious theologies and dogmas of man will not be able to be drunk any longer!

CHAPTER 8

PLAGUE 2 – FROGS (8:1-15)

After 7 days of purification from the blood, יהוה once again sends Mosheh and Aharon to Pharaoh to tell him to let Yisra’ĕl go, so that they serve יהוה. We must come out of Mitsrayim and Babylon before we can faithfully serve יהוה. We need to see ourselves as יהוה sees us – that we are a treasured possession – we are His and no longer slaves. We must not let our jobs or citizenship to a country or skin colour keep us from fully serving the One who has called us, saved us and redeemed us by His Mighty Right Hand as a people unto Himself!

After Pharaoh continued to harden his heart, יהוה sent the frogs as Aharon stretched out his hand with his rod over the waters of Mitsrayim. There were frogs everywhere and when they died were gathered together in huge heaps and stank – the whole land stank – first the dead fish and now the dead frogs – can you imagine!!!

Mitsrayim worshipped a female deity of frogs called Heka who was supposedly the wife of the mighty one ‘khum. She was the mighty one they worshipped as one who was over reincarnation and had procreative power. Frogs were worshipped in the land and was the symbol of inspiration consecrated to ‘Osiris’. Frogs were held in such reverence by Mitsrayim that if anyone killed a frog, even by mistake, would be liable to be punished by death! Pharaoh’s magicians could make frogs appear too but could not take them away – as that would be against their beliefs, and it could therefore only be the Elohim of the Hebrews that could remove them, which He did revealing His power.

Heka” was also seen as a fertility mighty one who particularly involved in the later stages of pregnancy and being a deity depicted as a woman with a frog head – to have her in one’s bedroom was seen as a good idea by the Mitsrians and so by יהוה actually sending physical frogs into their beds made a great statement to reveal their disgusting belief systems. Frogs are also a representation or picture for us in Scripture of false doctrines and the doctrines of demons:

Ḥazon/Revelation 16:13-14 “And I saw coming out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet, three unclean spirits, as frogs, 14 for they are spirits of demons, doing signs, which go out to the sovereigns of the entire world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of יהוה the Almighty.

This is what יהוה is calling His people out from – filthy, slimy and toxic doctrines that have crept into homes that are in fact a huge stench in His nostrils and stench in Scripture often is associated with disobedience!

PLAGUE 3 – GNATS (8:16-19)

With this plague Pharaoh did not receive warning but was still being held accountable. The dust of the land became gnats/lice. Mitsrians worshipped even the earth – the ground they lived upon and now the very ground they worshipped was turned into gnats and lice that went all over their bodies, both on man and beast. They worshipped a false mighty one named ‘Geb who was over the soil and vegetation. He is pictured as a man with a goose on his head and his body was called ‘house of the earth’. The goose on his head was said to have been the goose that laid the egg that hatched the sun! The royal throne of Mitsrayim was also known as the ‘throne of Geb’, and he was apparently the father of Osiris and husband of ‘Nut. The priests of Mitsrayim would shave their heads in order to prevent the manifestation of lice, which if was found on their heads would render them unclean and unfit for service as priests to Pharaoh, and so we see that by this plague all priestly duties and rituals of Mitsrayim was brought to a halt!

Their priests could not perform this act and so recognised that this was the finger of Elohim. יהוה showed that he was the Creator and defied their worship of the ground that He had made by their vain attributing the ground to some strange mighty one of earth and vegetation and the magicians were starting to realise that this was Elohim, yet Pharaoh continued to harden his heart.

PLAGUE 4 – SWARMS OF ‘FLIES’ (8:20-32)

At this 4th plague we see something significant being displayed – a separation between clean and unclean. יהוה would send swarms over Mitsrayim that would go into all the houses of Mitsrayim and come over all the people of the land, while in Goshen there would be no swarms – Goshen would be separated to show that יהוה was in the midst of the land. He was making a clear distinction between that which is idolatry and of the world and that which is set-apart and clean and of יהוה. Goshen means to draw near and it is here that the door is opened for all who would but hear His voice come and draw near, be set-apart and find protection form the swarm of flies/mosquitoes. Pharaoh’s heart remained hardened and would not let Yisra’ĕl go but said they could offer a slaughtering to יהוה in the land, to which Mosheh said that if they did that they would be doing what is an abomination to Mitsrayim and cause the Mitsrians to stone them. Shepherds were an abomination to Mitsrayim and to also sacrifice a bull that was worshipped by Mitsrayim would be a major abomination in their eyes!

By this swarm separating Goshen from the rest of Mitsrayim יהוה was giving a sure sign of the ransom of His people from bondage!

Yeshayahu/Isaiah 43:3 “For I am יהוה your Elohim, the Set-apart One of Yisra’ĕl, your Saviour; I gave Mitsrayim for your ransom, Kush and Seḇa in your place.

What we also learn from this is that still today in our being a daily living sacrifice unto יהוה our Elohim, we are seen as strange and our actions are an abomination in the eyes of the world and more specifically in the eyes of the church who do not see the need to keep יהוה’s Feasts, Sabbaths and commands and when we live set-apart lives clearly defined as different to the rest we are seen as abominable and are hated, yet we must know that יהוה is in our midst!

We are to be separate from the world – we are in the world but not of the world and we need to learn what true separation is and we clearly learn from His Word what idolatry is and what we should refrain from, and we should always refrain from that which keeps us from bringing esteem to יהוה, doing our utmost to live set-apart lives in perfecting our love for Him.

The plague of flies was an attack on ‘Khepfi’, who was their mighty one of insects. Included in the same plague was the beetle, a scarab, which was the emblem of Re (Ra), the sun-god. Their sun-god had now become detestable to them. Once again they worshipped the dung beetle, yet with so many of them all over their bodies would render them unclean and the priests could do no service. Pharaoh had to ask once again the Elohim of the Hebrews by asking Mosheh to ask Elohim to stop, and even asks Mosheh to pray for him too!!! How ironic – even those who do not believe in יהוה will gladly ask for prayer to get out of a tight spot when their life is in the balance!

First 4 plagues – first 4 days of Creation:

As we consider these first 4 plagues and their direct attack on the false mighty ones of the Mitsrians, we are also able to see the clear destruction of their entire belief system and their assumed origins of creation! Why I say this is that I can see in these events a clear statement of who the True Creator of all life is, and a clear destruction of all falsely taught origins of man! To recap, I can see the pictures of Creation week being firmly restored, not only to Yisra’ĕl, but to the whole world. In the first sign that was given to Pharaoh through Aharon’s rod eating up the rods of Pharaoh’s magicians, we see the firm establishment of who the One True Elohim is – יהוה of Hosts!

In the first plague, the attack on the waters turning to blood is a powerful picture of יהוה making it clear that He is the author of all life. In Berěshith/Genesis 1 we are told that in the beginning Elohim created the heavens and the earth – He is the source and author and authority of all creation! This was firmly witnessed by the Rod of Aharon (the high priest) eating up all other rods. Then we are told that the earth was formless and that darkness was over the face of the deep, and the Spirit of Elohim hovered over the waters. The Mitsrians believed that their source of life came from the waters of the Nile and the mighty one of the Nile that they worshipped gave them life, and so יהוה turns their ‘source of life’ into blood – blood that kills all the fish. From the formless waters of Creation יהוה brought forth all life and form, and once again this destroying of their waters, He was making it clear who has authority over the waters! The 2nd plague of frogs that came out of the river was once again a direct attack on their false belief systems that they worshipped. Their belief that the frogs represented their ability to procreate and be reincarnated, was attacked with this fierce plague. The 3rd plague of gnats or lice that would come from the dust of the earth, further strengthens the authority of Elohim is declaring that He is the Creator and Authority of all. These 2nd and 3rd plagues collectively can be seen as how the belief of the origin of the Mitsrians was attacked. יהוה caused the land to appear and brought forth grass, plants and trees etc. While the Mitsrians believed that their source was from the waters and they worshipped the ground that they were on, יהוה in directly attacking that which they worshipped through these plagues, He would be reminding all of the Creation account, and where all that exists had come forth from! In the 4th plague we see a very powerful attack on a false worship system that had been established in Mitsrayim. With the 3rd plague also being an attack on their false mighty one called Geb, which was pictured as a man who had a goose head and had hatched the sun, we can see from this 4th plague an attack on the authority that they placed in their sun worship. With their ‘sun’ having been hatched, and now according to their false belief systems had become the authority and symbol of their worship, with Ra being the sun-god, we can see in the 4th plague of flies a metaphoric reference to the false authority of Baʽal-Zeḇuḇ. בַּעַל זְבוּב Baʽal-Zeḇuḇ - Strong’s H1176 means, lord of flies’, which was a false mighty one worshipped by the Philistines at Eqron that Aḥazyah had sent his messengers to inquire of instead of seeking  יהוה.

The point I am trying to make here is that this 4th plague is a direct attack on their established false worship system, and we know that it was on the 4th day of Creation that the lights came to be, in order to separate the light from the darkness.  יהושע Messiah came on the ‘4th day’, as the Light of the world, and called us out of darkness into His Marvellous Light, destroying death and setting us free form dogmas that once enslaved us.

It was after this 4th plague that יהוה began to have a clear separation of His people and the rest. So in these first 4 plagues we are able to not only see a direct attack on the false mighty ones that the Mitsrians worshipped, but also how He destroyed their belief systems of where they come from and their own thought of Creation!

Yirmeyahu/Jeremiah 10:10-12 “But יהוה is truly Elohim. He is the living Elohim and the everlasting Sovereign. At His wrath the earth shakes, and nations are unable to stand His displeasure. 11 Say to them this, “The elah that did not make the heavens and the earth shall perish from the earth and from under these heavens.” 12 He has made the earth by His power, He has established the world by His wisdom, and has stretched out the heavens by His understanding.

CHAPTER 9

PLAGUE 5 – LIVESTOCK (9:1-7)

יהוה does not change – neither does His message – Let my people go so that they serve Me! יהוה wants us to serve Him and in order to do that we must get out of Mitsrayim so to speak and draw near to Him in Goshen.

He is a jealous El and here He is in effect telling Pharaoh – “If you do not let My people go you will feel the effect of My Hand against you!”

He struck the livestock, the horses, donkeys, camels, cattle and sheep of Mitsrayim while once again separating the livestock of Yisra’ĕl from that of Mitsrayim! Yisra’ĕl’s livestock was protected and this hardened Pharaoh’s heart even more.

This was a direct attack upon ‘Apis the Mitsrian bull-deity whose counterpart was ‘Hathor the female cow-deity. Mitsrians worshipped many beasts such as the bull, cow, heifer, ram, ox, lion, wolf, dog, cat and goat. The soul of their mighty one ‘Osiris was believed to reside in the body of the bull, ‘Apis. One bull was chosen to represent ‘Apis and when it died, another had to be chosen with 29 criteria it had to meet in regard to any markings or qualities, and now after all the livestock were killed it would be very difficult to find a replacement which sent a great statement to them that their bull-god was dead with none to replace it!

This practice of bull worship was what would become a snare to Yisra’ĕl at Mount Sinai as they had certainly learnt many customs of worship from Mitsrayim, which they had to be cleansed of. We must worship יהוה His way and His way alone, uncompromised with the guarding against the subtle syncretism of worldly traditions that will prove to be a snare if we are not set-apart and watchful.

PLAGUE 6 – BOILS (9:8-12)

Once again a plague with no warning to Pharaoh – Mosheh and Aharon were to take ashes from a furnace and let Mosheh scatter them towards the heavens before Pharaoh’s eyes. This became fine dust and caused boils to break out on man and beast causing even Pharaoh’s magicians to be unable to stand before Pharaoh because of the boils!

This plague was a direct attack on ‘Thoth (Imhotep), who was their mighty one of medicine, intelligence and wisdom. The Mitsrians had many medical deities to whom, on special occasions, they sacrificed humans!!! They were burnt alive on a high altar, and their ashes were cast into the air, that with every scattered ash a blessing might descend upon the people – how sick is that!!! So now יהוה instructs Mosheh to scatter ashes into the air and what was considered to bring blessing by their false mighty one of medicine, wisdom and intelligence would instead bring sickness in the form of serious festering and painful boils, which would cause great despair and confusion as יהוה shamed their false mighty ‘Thoth’ before their eyes!!! So while the Mitsrians believed that the scattering of ashes would protect them from sickness they were plagued with severe sickness of the blood causing septic boils on their skin also known as skin anthrax! A people who were very vain about their appearances were brought down bringing all their vanities to nought!

This break out is also a foreshadowing of that which is described in Ḥazon in referring to the sores that will be poured out upon those who take the mark of the beast:

Ḥazon/Revelation 16:2 “And the first went and poured out his bowl upon the earth, and an evil and wicked sore came upon the men, those having the mark of the beast and those worshipping his image.

It was up to this point with 5 plagues before this 6th one of boils that Pharaoh had hardened his own heart and now יהוה hardened Pharaoh’s heart. 5 I believe is symbolic of the Torah – 5 books of Mosheh and when one does not heed the Torah of יהוה and receive a love for the Truth then they stand in the dangerous position of being handed over to the hardness of their own heart and will be given over to the lies that they have stubbornly held fast to!

There is a point where repentance will no longer be available and this is a frightening thought which sadly many will not consider as they walk blindly under the hardened theologies of lies!

Tas’loniqim Bět/2 Thessalonians 2: 9-12The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power and signs and wonders of falsehood, 10 and with all deceit of unrighteousness in those perishing, because they did not receive the love of the truth, in order for them to be saved. 11 And for this reason Elohim sends them a working of delusion, for them to believe the falsehood, 12 in order that all should be judged who did not believe the truth, but have delighted in the unrighteousness.”

Those who receive the mark of the beast and worship his image – by observing sun-day worship and forsaking the Truth of the Torah of יהוה will find themselves struck with this terrible plague of severe sores!

May we find ourselves drawing near to יהוה in the ‘Goshen’ of our day as we gather as faithful communities who love the Truth and obey it, guarding and keeping His feasts and appointed Times, living set-apart lives ensuring that we are not found hardened through deceit and handed over to the delusion!

PLAGUE 7 – HAIL (9:13-35)

Mosheh is once again told to rise early - in other words – make it your first priority! This is a very important lesson for us as this was a repeated command to Mosheh reminding him to never get slack or lazy to the purposes of serving יהוה! He may at this point thought to himself that this was a waste of time and as Pharaoh’s heart was continually hardened, yet Mosheh must remain faithful to the task despite the reactions of Pharaoh. This is a lesson for us too – to rise up early and get our daily bread – consulting ‘Mosheh’ – the Torah, especially when we do not know the will or plans of יהוה for us for the day ahead, so that we are well equipped to face even the most daunting tasks that we may face. יהוה made it very clear to Pharaoh that He was striking his heart with every plague and that יהוה; the potter had raised him up for the purpose of revealing His power and in order to declare His Name in all the earth and because he refused to let His people go this is what was going to happen – hail – such as had never been seen before! יהוה even offers a clause of protection for livestock and man – get them inside or else they will die!!!

יהוה could have destroyed Pharaoh long ago, but he chose to take the most stubborn ruler in all the earth and make a spectacle of him in order to show the whole earth who He was!

The focus of all the Pharaoh’s, even from their tombs was to make their names known in all the earth and here יהוה was letting Pharaoh know that יהוה would be made known throughout all the earth – a direct attack on the assumed authority of Pharaoh! Anyone in the field would die! We know that in Scripture ‘the field’, according to יהושע in His parable of the darnel of the field (Mattithyahu 13:38), represents the world and all the man-made systems of worship and so what we see happening is the enemy who is also sowing seeds that come up as darnel, while there is good seed and messengers will be sent to rip out the darnel and throw them into the fire. In effect, just as יהוה is building His house so too is the enemy and there will be a great showdown. Here at this time, through the plague of hail, we see a distinction with that which is found in the field and that which is not, for when the hail comes that which is in the field would be destroyed; which is a picture too of what is spoken of in Ḥazon in regards to those who do not heed the instructions of יהוה and follow the beast, as they will find themselves under the torture of fire and sulphur – similar to that which rained down on Seḏom and Amorah!

Ḥazon/Revelation 14:9-10 “And a third messenger followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives his mark upon his forehead or upon his hand, 10 he also shall drink of the wine of the wrath of Elohim, which is poured out undiluted into the cup of His wrath. And he shall be tortured with fire and sulphur before the set-apart messengers and before the Lamb.

After the parable of the sower in Mattithyahu/Matthew 13, יהושע Messiah gave another parable on the reign of the heavens which He likens again to sowing, this time He gives the parable of the Good Seed and the darnel that is sown in the earth, which can be read in Mattithyahu/Matthew 13:24-30.

The words that clearly stood out for me when reading this again, was the words from verse 25: “But when men slept”, and what we certainly see happening on a daily basis, is that when people are ‘asleep’ to the Truth, the enemy has a field day in sowing poisonous junk into their hearts – poison that grows up and even resembles the Truth, yet is nothing more than a deadly killer. The Master יהושע then explains this parable to His disciples in verses 36-43.

These verses clearly explain the parable, and so what we recognise is that in this world there are sons of the reign and sons of the wicked one, that grow side by side until the harvest time comes when messengers of Elohim shall come and reap and gather out the darnel from the wheat, removing all those doing lawlessness! In understanding the parable prior to this one, in regards to the conditions of hearts, and how the various responses to the Truth simply reveals the true condition of one’s heart when the various pressures of this world and this life come to test the heart; then we are able to recognise that a ‘sleeping heart’ is a heart that the devourer just loves to come and infect with his poison.

By sleeping heart, I mean a heart that does not diligently guard the Torah that is to be written upon our hearts, and by not watching, allows lies to be sown in with the Truth and can corrupt the heart to a point of becoming lawless – which we see by the words of the Master, what the end of the lawless shall be!

Kěpha Aleph 5:8-10Be sober, watch, because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9 Resist him, firm in the belief, knowing that the same hardships are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. 10 And the Elohim of all favour, who called you to His everlasting esteem by Messiah יהושע, after you have suffered a while, Himself perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.

These are very clear words of instruction for us today, in that we are to guard ourselves against the lies of the enemy, that are not always clearly revealed as lies, under the veil of the vain traditions of man; and if we are not sober and watchful in guarding the commands of Elohim, we may just find ourselves being seduced into a drunken state in drinking the lies that ensnare and weaken our ability to stand firm in the Truth in the day of battle! Being sober and watchful, through diligent listening to and obeying the Torah of Elohim, on a daily basis, will help us in our ability to resist the devourer and endure through the momentary sufferings and troubles that we face; and hold fast to this sure promise of יהושע Messiah establishing, strengthening and settling us!

In Kěpha’s letter the Greek root word translated as ‘be sober’ is νήφω nēphō – Strong’s G3525 which means, to be sober, abstain from wine, keep sober, watchful, circumspect, and the word translated as ‘watch’ is γρηγορέω grēgoreō – Strong’s G1127 which means, to be awake, keep watch, alert, vigilant, be cautious, give strict attention to and comes from the root ἐγείρω  egeirō – Strong’s G1453 which means, to raise up, to waken, stand’. The Greek word translated as ‘resist’ is ἀνθίστημι anthistēmi – Strong’s G436 which means, to set against, withstand, oppose, resist’. If we are not sober and alert, giving strict attention to the Word of Elohim, we will not be able to oppose or withstand the seed of the enemy being planted in our hearts!

In Greek the opposite to νήφω nēphō (to be sober) is the word μεθύω methuō – Strong’s G3184 which means, to be drunk, get drunk and this word is used metaphorically in describing those who are made drunk with the wine of the great whore:

Ḥazon/Revelation 17:2with whom the sovereigns of the earth committed whoring, and the inhabitants of the earth were made drunk with the wine of her whoring.

In Ma’asei/Acts we see this word being used to make it clear that those who were filled with the Set-Apart Spirit on Shavuot were not drunk:

Ma’asei/Acts 2:15 “For these men are not drunk, as you imagine, since it is only the third hour of the day.

This modern day concept of being ‘drunk in the spirit’ is NOT a clean Scriptural state to be in; which makes us realise that those who claim to be in such a state are in fact intoxicated by the poisonous venom of the enemy, and as a result they are the darnel that is growing up in the world as children of the wicked one, which may have the appearance of wheat, yet in the end will be revealed for its darkness! As the ear of the wheat develops it becomes heavy and causes the entire plant to ‘droop’ or hang down, giving us a picture of humility; whereas in darnel the ‘ear’ does not develop and remains upright – a picture of pride and stubbornness to hear the Truth. The wheat becomes white in the head, whereas the darnel becomes black! This can only be revealed at harvest time.

Another Greek word we see being used in Scripture in reference to being drunk and is derived from μεθύω methuō is μεθύσκω methuskō – Strong’s G3182 which means, to make drunk, get drunk and we are expressly told in:

Eph’siyim/Ephesians 5:18 “And do not be drunk with wine, in which is loose behaviour, but be filled with the Spirit

Being drunk results is loose behaviour or lawless living, which reckons that the Torah is of no effect, and those who continue to get drunk on such lies, by following vain theologies an traditions of man that teach this, will be plucked out and thrown into the fire!

Messiah makes it clear that the darnel are those who are lawless, and in Mattithyahu/Matthew 13:41 the Greek word translated as ‘lawlessness’ is ἀνομία  anomia – Strong’s G458 meaning, lawlessness or lawless deeds, unrighteousness and comes from the word ἄνομος anomos – Strong’s G459 meaning, lawless or without law, transgressors.

Many translations try to hide this truth by translating this ‘lawlessness’  as ‘evil’ or ‘sin’, which under the intoxicated dogmas of man, is not understood as it should be; for as I have previously mentioned that Scripture clearly tells us that ‘sin is lawlessness’.

The Greek word for sin is ἁμαρτία hamartia – Strong’s G266 which means, sin, failure, miss the mark, to miss or wander from the path of uprightness and honour, to do or go wrong, and also carries the meaning of, wandering from the law of Elohim, violate the law of Elohim.

And we clearly are told in:

Yoḥanan Aleph/1 John 3:4Everyone doing sin also does lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness.

So what causes people to be so drunk on lies that they are unable to hear or discern the truth – SLEEP!!!

No I am not talking of physical sleep alone – for we certainly know that we need that – and we are also promised that while we sleep our Master never sleeps nor slumbers, but watches over us:

Tehillah/Psalm 121:3-4 “He does not allow your foot to be moved; He who watches over you does not slumber. 4 See, He who is guarding Yisra’ĕl Neither slumbers nor sleeps.

What I am speaking about is the sleep that many find themselves falling into, as they are led astray by false teachings and doctrines and become drunken to the point of being in a state of ‘sleep’ toward  the hearing, guarding and doing of the Truth or they become weighed down and get exhausted with the worries of life and the pressures of this world that they too fall asleep to the Truth, causing them to turn aside in their need to be diligent in their obedience to walking in the clear Torah (instructions) of יהוה. How often have you found yourself having slipped away from the Word – be it for a day or two or even a week or so, only to find yourself being bogged down with huge stress and fears and worries of life? These fears and worries can often begin to drive your thought patterns and emotions, and lead you to a lawless state – as compromise sets in, even if just for something seemingly small, which you will try to justify the acceptance of such compromise – all because you let your guard down and did not stay sober and alert, allowing the drunken and poisonous seeds of the enemy to be planted in your heart that you must guard in Messiah! What we also are to guard against is the seeds of division that the enemy will sow into sleeping hearts! When you ‘slack off’ and compromise in your walk, the enemy will even sow poisonous seeds of twisted lies in an effort to break down the unity in the fellowship of the body, by stirring up irritations and hatred towards others in the body, which then causes those who slack off to withdraw more and more from fellowship, to the point where they do not want to even be a part of what יהוה is building or where He has called them too, only causing the building of the House of Elohim to be neglected!

Messiah made it clear that it was while men slept that the enemy came and sowed the bad seed; and the Greek word translated as ‘slept’ is καθεύδω  katheudō – Strong’s G2518 which means, fall asleep, drop off, lie down to rest (figuratively or literally), and euphemistically it means, to be dead and metaphorically it means, to yield to sloth and sin, or be indifferent to one’s salvation. In other words to be asleep in Scripture can often refer to one who does not care about their life or the salvation of their souls, and so yield themselves to sin and lawlessness. Sadly there are many who do care about their lives, yet in their drunken state of lawlessness being sowed on their hearts, they are no different to the one who does not care!!!

Here in Shemoth/Exodus 9:20-21 we see that many did heed the warning and even among the servants of Pharaoh there were those who feared the word of יהוה, while those who did not set their heart on the word of יהוה ignored the warning and left their servants in the field – having no regard for others – which is a clear picture of selfishness and pride that is unwilling to warn others of the coming danger, as they are the darnel that is asleep to the Truth, having the seed of the enemy sown into their hearts while they have ‘slept’!

Here in Shemoth, this plague of hail was an attack on ‘Nut, who was the Mitsrian sky goddess and the mother of Osiris. This plague struck at the height of the flax and barley harvest. Like her husband ‘Geb, mentioned in the third plague, יהוה attacked and destroyed the crops of Egypt. This also was an attack on ‘Isis’, the Mitsrian goddess of life and ‘Seth the Mitsrian protector of crops.

As Mosheh stretched out his hand with his rod יהוה sent hail and fire that destroyed everything in the field of Mitsrayim while Goshen was protected and untouched by any hail and fire!

Today it is no different – some will heed the warning of that which is coming according to His word while others will ignore the Truth and carry on with the hardened and deceived mind-set of ‘business as usual’ as they continue to bow to false religious systems of worship and refuse to come out of slavery and bondage.

Ḥazon/Revelation 16:21 “And great hail from the heaven fell upon men, every hailstone about the weight of a talent. And men blasphemed Elohim for the plague of the hail, because that plague was exceedingly great.

The plagues sent were a direct attack upon false mighty ones that had been set up and are a great warning to us to not follow the ways of the nations or else we may lose our identity and die!

יהוה is a faithful El, who has provided for us and even while we are in the world we can find ourselves living a dedicated set-apart life as we draw near to Him through obedient and loving worship gathering in the ‘Goshen’ of our day through community living. It begins with the recognising of the True fact that the great I AM has appeared to His called out people and made Himself known to Yisra’ĕl as a nation that He is יהוה, who has called us out of darkness into His marvellous light – let us now live as children of light!

Shalom!
